Cronk should be co-captain

Why? Purely so he can be the on field captain who talks to the refs.

You don't have to be Einstein to figure out that the refs are in awe of the Qld cartel - Slater Inglis JT Cronk and their Overlord Cam Smith.

If Slater or GI fart they get a penalty. JTs whinges have seen the Cowboys receive legendary preferential treatment the past few years. And Smith, well Smith is the best.

But Cronk is very persuasive too. And I've no doubt that the refs dote upon him like the rest.

Contrast that with Jake Friend who I believe holds zero sway with the refs. In fact some refs are downright confrontational towards him.

So make Cronk co-captain so he can be the ref whisperer. Smith is like Kaa the snake from Jungle Book with them, and Cronk can be too.

It makes sense.

Great idea,robbo should consider doing exactly this,jake has no rapport with the refs and in my opinion should be concentrating on improving a couple of areas in his game that are not up to scratch at the moment.

Understandable suggestion of Cronk as co captain but I don’t think it will happen for the new boy. Friends contract likely included a co captaincy. Points raised by Tommy in how the refs respect Cronk also valid however Cordner has it now with the establishment. The first sign of it was when the NSW captain was awarded that penalty that involved Gallen the ex blues captain and how the refs easily engaged him upon his questioning during the World Cup. Prefer Cordner as Jake is often told to go away by refs.

Totally agree Cronk should be captain, and do all the talking to the refs on-field and all the press conferences. It totally makes sense, Jake will be much better off concentrating on his own game, so will Boyd. They are both very hard workers who lead by example, but have very little to offer with communication skills.

The fact that we need someone the refs have 'respect' for just to have that bit of pull with them is exactly what's wrong with the game today.

Thanks 13 for clarifying the captaincy factor. I take it onboard.Why it came to my mind was due to that cafuffle Jake apparently had with managements idea of bringing Farah to the club and the recent 2 yr deal Jake signed. I hope Jake has a standout season with the outstanding new players around him.
