  • Teddy to miss most of preseason will also undergo stem cell treatment

    TEDDY UNDER THE KNIFE

YOU won’t be seeing a lot of the Roosters’ million-dollar fullback James Tedesco at pre-season training. Like his skipper, Boyd Cordner, Tedesco is about to have revolutionary stem cell surgery to repair a knee cartilage injury. Surgeons inject Tedesco with his own fat tissue to accelerate the regeneration of the damage in his knee. Both players are unlikely to play in the trials but are expected to be fully fit for the opening round of the 2018 season.

Gosh man wow, hope he is 100 percent recovered. Both he and Cordner who was MoTM tonight.

While we are at it I think Jared needs it too, perhaps SST as he has had ongoing knee problems.

Plus, Napa needs some stem cells for his heart.

Our chief medical officer Dr Ameer Ibrahim on Cords knee injury: "Stem cells are a good option for articular cartilage injuries in knees. Big anti inflammatory component and possible cartilage repair"
"Knee not that bad. Think of stem cells like an oil change at a yearly service"

Its from answering twitter questions not an interview, but seems like he believes the procedure really isn't a big deal, probably not for either of them.

              That bit made me laugh.

Yeah, right...I'll believe that when I see it..

Would've been nice if we'd found out that Tedesco had bad knees before we signed him for a million bucks a season.

Wait a minute, we did know, remember when he couldn't train with Wests...'bad knees' wasn't it?

Hope there's a "existing injuries" get-out clause for us in his contract.

pre season...baaah, big waste of time if you ask me..

Our whole first grade team should miss the pre season/trials...send Wyong along instead.

At the very least our top/most valuable stars shouldn't be risked.

Go and rub one out mate you need to relax. They’ve just said he will be right for round one. Who cares about pre season. He’s a professional athlete and will get himself right. Just about every rep player in the nrl would be carrying some sort of ongoing niggle.

Unless things have changed drastically, pre-season training (for any sport, even sprinters and stuff) is mostly about doing a boot load of cardio so that you can condition your body for large amounts of repetitive drills + strengthen up all your joints. You do all the insane power lifting and stuff towards the end of the season when you NEED to be peaking (for like a month).

Skills are a part too. However, Teddy and Cords are both rep players (i.e. elite of the elite) so their ball and running skills are already fiiiine.

Teamwork and set plays? Pretty sure they can attend theory sessions, discuss tactics and do non-contact work. Again, both are good enough to execute complex set plays without practice, they’d just have to talk it through and be like ‘k no worries, I’ll do that’.

Hopefully Cronk brings in the kinda professionalism that SBW put into his injury management. Dunno if that’s the plan, but it’d be awesome to have ‘one of those guys’ who always turns up early to do recovery drills, nurses all his injuries properly and never has recovery issues because recovery begins as soon as the game ends (no time for crying or celebrating, time to think about getting the body ready for next week). I hope that’s what he brings. Most pros are nursing a number of injuries... the REAL elite are the ones who manage them properly so that they aren’t ever an issue for key games.
