  • How's This for an NRL Conspiracy Theory ?

OK fellow Chookpeners, go easy........I busted brain cells for this....

I think the NRL will warm up to the only true 'Sydney' v 'Melbourne' grand final. Not roosters v storm, but marketed as Sydney v Melbourne. City v City. A promoters dream IMO (forget Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne are Australia's most well known and globally recognizable cities), and what could be a huge WIN for the NRL.

Forget about growing the number of fans in say,.......Parra by 15,000, I'm talking about targeting the other codes and trying to accelerate the growth of the NRL around Australia, obviously Perth and Adelaide are being targeted. The NRL is presently losing the battle of the codes, and it's time to go BIG.

Then there's the Corporate injection of funds and sponsorships, etc, and much greater interest in the Big Dance around the world, to coincide with the World Cup at seasons end.

    One can only dream.

Then again, purely as a overly passionate Roosters fan I think I'd prefer to be playing Penrith in the GF. Revenge for 2003, and Toddy's emotional scarring would be oh so sweet.

Out of the remaining teams I am fairly certain Roosters would be the last preference for an NRL Grand Final. Parra big support base, haven't won in ages, another cheating redemption story, etc, vs Storm retirements of soon to be immortals, non-Sydney team, 2009 grand final replay, etc

Yeah as a rooster I agree 100%. but as an NRL exec I'd see it as pissing on a raging bushfire.

The love shown to Smith and Cronk this year and to a lesser degree Slater is very Southsesk. Parra the other team best for business in Sydney. We need to be on our game for 160 minutes to have a chance.

It's not really fair to accuse fans of the game of inventing conspicarcy theories.
It's a general thing brought about by making rules grey, making money and , on occasion , personal agendas.

          Sport has changed.

Wish I could like this o.p. more than once.
