  • Some good news from the Roosters.

From the June 2009 Beast Magazine:

Anthony Minichiello attended the 70th birthday of Mrs Botella, a long time roosters fan and recently diagnosed with terminal lung and brain cancer.

Mini attended the party at the chinese restraunt at Easts leagues where he chatted, answered questions, posed for photos and signed autographs, he even had some cake.

The family was very happy at how Mini joined them and spent time with them and they cannot sing his praises high enough.

From the Charing Cross hotel, 29/05/09

People may remember Little Johnno Ward, he is the roosters fan that was given the 5000th membership during the Freddy's 5000 promotion in 2008. He was diagnosed with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, this caused liver disease and Johnno had 2 liver transplants by the time he was 8. Unfortunatly Johnno died in september last year.

For the past 6 yrs (i think) they have been running a raffle and donation night raising money for the Westmead Childrens hospital.

There has always been support from the roosters in past years, but there was a concerted show of support from the players with Braith Anasta, Willie Mason, Anthony Cherrington, Jordan Tansey, Frank Paul and Sia Soliola all turning up to the event.

There was the big raffle and auction, Sia won a Jets Jersey signed by Mason and Myles after their stint in newtown and Willie bid a considerable sum for a Manchester United Jersey signed by Carrick.

Braith was a main insitgator in organising alot of the Auction items and prizes ( An aussie world cup jersey fully signed, he and fitzy organised this, also a fully signed roosters jersey, a pair of signed roosters boardied and was able to get a Waratahs jersey to put in the raffle.

A good show of support from the club and the boys !

More of this stuff nees to be out there. Well done Roosters players, reading this lifted my spirits.

My deepest condolences to the family of Johnno Ward. What a brave little guy to have gone through so much.

    Many thanks Muz for sharing.

Which begs the question why the good stuff doesn't get published more than the infrequent bad stuff.

And this will be changed to...
"Willie was recently seen at an eastern suburbs hotel, being loud and boisterous, waving his arms around in an unnatural manner, before leaving with a personal item of another patron"
