  • Pearce & Origin 2

OK, I'll be the one to talk about the elephant in the room. What did you guy's make of Pearce's game?

Remember, Daley said 'this NSW team was Pearce's team'.

As expected my social media contacts, other NRL club forums, and other di.kheads are giving it to him. (Running the ball, offloading at the line, kicking game, etc, etc, etc)

    This was bound to happen.

    They can fark off !!!!!!!!!!!

While the forwards in first half did their job he went real good while NSW were back peddling from bad decisions he went average .Despite been set back in second half .Cordner must as Captain take ownership. He needed to settle them down and dig deeper.

Yeah, too true Brain. Great point..

Cordner took it hard, sitting on the turf after the loss, fighting back tears at the press conference. I hope he's mentally up for the gig. I also hope he get's used to losing being captain of NSW. It comes with the territory and history.............

I've always thought that nsw can only succeed vs this queensland if there are zero selfish players, at the moment there's still one big selfish player left and that's hayne. I'm not putting the whole loss on him but he had a huge contribution to the loss through going for wonder plays, i had thought he learnt his lesson about it but guess not, quite disappointing. Happy the roosters didn't sign him

Queensland points didn't come down Pearce's side of the field in the 2nd half.

Graham 5 missed tackles, Maloney 5 missed tackles, Hayne 5 missed tackles.....that's where the game was lost.

Pearce was poor in the second half as were most of the team. We panicked.

however, there is only so much the halfback can do when the whole team is on tilt.

just state of origin standard operating procedure - maroons get a roll on and the blue lose their shit

Yep. That's where the holes opened up.

He wasn't the reason we lost, but I'm disappointed he didn't make us win. That was his job.

Overall I thought Pearce was pretty good. His long and short kicking games kept the likes of Slater, Boyd, Holmes and Gagai largely at bay. He forced a lot of repeat sets, supported well (scoring him a try) and was as fast as possible (given QLD will always lie down/wrestle in the ruck without penalty). Defensively he was good too!

That said, he wasn't perfect. His pass to Hayne's boots was a Barry Crocker at best and he looked a bit lost/confused in the final 2 minutes. Rather than stepping up in the last play he sorta ran backwards, slowly handed the ball to Fifita, encouraged everybody to retreat (rather than having a final roll of the dice) and obviously didn't deliver the lollies when needed. BUT... the game was already lost by then, so I don't hold it against him. One could say that JT and Cam Smith looked pretty lost for most of the game, but got lucky when it counted. IMO NSW defeated themselves and really shoulda won this one...

Our second half was poor and we didn't deserve to win. Disappointing but as Joey has FINALLY said [I paraphrase]... 'halves and fullbacks don't win games... if we win in the forwards then we are set'. To me the good news is that we had the wood on them in the forwards and COULD have won if we had been more patient in attack (yeah you Hayne Plane!!) Fark our forwards are good!!!

I predict we'll get 'em in QLD. Don't wanna blame the refs (the game was ours to lose) but I felt they were a little too timid when it came to penalising the Maroons at key moments. Had they disallowed that 'try' (which FFS... wasn't a try, but it was a defensive stuff-up) and called a couple of knock-ons (rather than letting QLD march down the field for free) then we woulda won NO CONTEST!! We know that's how they ref, so next time around we need to make sure we give QLD NOTHING!!! (That includes you Maloney... work on those conversions too, while you're at it).

He went okay. Not his best but who do NSW have that could have done better? No one. I was hoping NSW would hang on so Pearce could give it to Thurston. He was 5 minutes away from wrapping up the series. Still kind of enjoyable watching the faces of the Blues in defeat. They take it so seriously which I find amusing. Lets see what happens in game 3.

He was reasonable in the first half, if not very influential. 2nd half he disappeared. He should have stood up and steered the team home but didn't have it in him.

For the record, all of these things can also be applied to Maloney, although he will escape all criticism.

Hayne and Graham were the primary reasons NSW lost with boneheaded penalties from the latter and ridiculous selfish hero plays from the Former.

As usual though Pearce will be copping all the blame while the rest get off scot-free

...and that happened in game 1 too Hayne cant defend at center we paid the price by not having a seasoned specialist center .....Bird at least can do it and is must for game 3

Hayne's ego is massive. He bombed that try for sure, made crucial errors and gave away dumb penalties. Damn I am glad we ended up with Teddy and not him.

Agree with your whole post here Ism22.

The other point is we weren't at our best for the 80 minutes and all but won anyway.

Hardly time for recriminations and wrist slashing. .

Which game was it this year, WARRIORS? , that we didn't ICE and kick the ball into touch and we ended up losing on the bell? As a team, Roosters and NSW, just need to step up when under real pressure, and execute well when under that pressure. Unfortunately, a QLD team with 4 potential 'immortals' DOES EXACTLY THAT.

                              Easier said I know...............
