Why would Cronulla let him go,they've already lost 1 origin player in Bird,doubt they will be happy to lose another. Especially at this stage where there are no more quality halves on the market left to replace him with. Maybe had Jimmy spoken up before Bird left they would have been willing to entertain a early release as the Sharks could have upped their bid for Bird and given him the 5/8 role he wanted.

So Souffs refuse to top up their best player this year Cody Walker who is on a pittance, yet are willing to throw mega bucks to lure Maloney. What was that remark a few weeks back about Souffs know how to look after their indigenous players !

Knights do need something , but didn't they dump some ridiculous amount ( "ALL" ) of their money into the "next big thing" from the Cows U20s- Kaylon Ponga - it would be hard to believe they have much left for a legitimate challenge for a real winner like Jimmy ( he at least deserves it )

They are paying Ponga $600K a year. They would have heaps left, particularly as their highest paid player, Jarred Mullen is gone as is the next highest in Dane Gagai. They would literally have millions spare.
