  • Chatting with Trent Robinson

I had the pleasure of meeting TR, this week.

Trent came to RNS to visit my father, whom has been struggling with illness.

A few interesting points came to light.

    * We are not chasing Chambers. He is asking too much. Trent is happy with Manu's progression, and they will pursue to resign Fergo, as a winger only.

    * The Roosters were not chasing Teddy. Teddy actually approached the Roosters, literally 2 weeks before they signed him.

    * Watson was being groomed to be fullback, but the opportunity to sign Teddy, was too hard to refuse. Trent asked Gordon's opinion, to which he replied... Sign him, now !

*Gordon might be resigned as a 6th back, for next season. The real chance that we might lose up to 8 to state of origin, next year, and to cover injury.

    * TKO will be kicking next year, with Latrell being groomed as a 2nd Goal kicker.

    * Carter is injured with a back problem. They are monitoring him.

    * Butcher, whom Trent see's alot of Cordner, in him, will be groomed to play lock or even Prop. He has high hopes for him.

Trent is confident can upset Canberra this week, with a fast brand of football planned.

It was a pleasure to meet Trent. He waited over an hour and half to see my Dad. Sadly, my father was away having a MRI, at the time. A real gentleman.

    Good post mate.

Shame Carter is injured and not on the lash - where's the gossip in that?

Initially, the sceptic in me though this thread title was a piss take. Hope your dad is ok. Mine is in his late 80's so I understand the health challenges involved.

A good post. Nice to "hear" Robbos thoughts.

Also, what a true professional M Gordon is , regarding the Teddy signing.

With JT back, along with Fitzy, can mentor both Latrel and SST regarding goal kicking.

        Thanks for sharing MFC.

Pity the club could not add Carter to their official injured list. They owe it to the fans

A lot of faith in Trent in so many ways. Did he say what watson's options are now?

          .
I'd assume if they see him as a winger only, money might be his major problem. Fergo wants to stay, but if some other club throws a big contract at him we ain't joining a bidding war.
I'd rather have Gordon for another year.

if watson was being groomed for fullback that does not look good for latrell mitchell's future as he publicly stated he sees himself as a fullback

Thanks mate. Great post. Wouldn't expect any less of Trent. And my opinion of Michael Gordon just grew even higher. Would love to sign him again for next year.

Trent wasn't 100% sure with Watson.

He does see him as a fullback. But considering we have signed Teddy, I'm guessing he might have to let him go.

I suggested leaving him in Wyong for the entire season at hooker, to learn the ropes, and using Carter as the utility. I'm not convinced he ( Watson) has the skill set to pass and or kick, at speed ( under pressure). No one doubts he can run, but I'm struggling to find a suitable position for him, going forward.

TR did remark about Latrell's confidence. He said he is starting to understand how good he can really be. We also both agreed that the match up between Latrell and Leilua this week, is the worth the price of admission. ( I thought Aubo, was marking Leilua, but I was corrected)

Great post MFC. I've always been a big fan of Robbo and believe we are so blessed to have him. Some very interesting points there. On the Carter one I don't believe Trent would tell you if there was an actual problem there as that's the sort of thing he would keep very close to his chest being a highly personal issue.
The info on Fergo would suggest whether he stays or not will all come down to money. Robbo sees him as a winger which I agree with. Which means there will be a salary limit the club will be looking at. If other clubs offer more than that amount Fergo will have to take less to stay a Rooster.
