By hiring Elliot, it is a gentle nudge to Smith to alert him that he is on notice, and I believe Elliott will become our head coach if not by this year's end, then by sometimes next year if results are similar to this year.

Does anyone know if they hired Elliot without Smithy's knowledge or did Smithy hire him as part of his assistant staff seeing they have worked together before and a quality coach like Elliot had nothing else in the pipeline? If the former then I would have thought that Smithy would have told them to FOFF.
Did they say the same thing when the Tigers hired Folkes? Was Sheens put on notice? Could be a storm in a tea cup being fueled by the media.

SMITH'S JOB SAFE
BEFORE you believe too much about the conspiracy theories around Brian Smith and his immediate future at the Roosters, it should be noted that Smith was the person who recruited Matt Elliott. Smith and Elliott go back more than 20 years. Elliott's manager, Steve Gillis, contacted the Roosters, and Smith was in favour of the idea. The players at the Roosters never warmed to Brandon Costin as an assistant. Elliott is a great communicator and players' coach - the Roosters like the fact that he is a Bondi United junior. Elliott will make a difference at the club, and Smith knows it. Smith's knockers have just been waiting to jump into him. Yes, the club is disappointed, but there are no moves to punt Smith. Chairman Nick Politis is still in his corner - he likes the fact that he rides the players hard.
