  • THE ROOS WRAP ROUND 1 WITH RIP

A defensively perfect start to the season in torrid conditions has Wyong coach Rip Taylor impressed.
The wind was blowing and the track was wet, but the Roos still managed to pile on the tries without conceding a point, downing the Wests Tigers 42-0 at Morry Breen Oval.
Taylor admits, however, that the lob-sided result came down to his side playing to the conditions better than their opposition.
“We probably had a little bit of luck, we ran into a very, very strong southerly wind in the first half,” Taylor says to NSWRL.com.au.
“Our kicking game was way better, Mitch Cornish was great, in the first half he had three repeat sets and I think the Tigers kicked it dead on five occasions.
“That helped us set a platform for the game.”
The Roos lined up with a relatively new 17 compared to seasons of late, but that proved to be no hindrance to their dominant performance.
Taylor named a few individuals who stood out, but was adamant that all 17 players who donned the green and gold jersey yesterday performed well.
“Zane Tetevano, Dale Copley, everyone across the park played good footy in very trying conditions with the southerly winds and the rain.
“It’s been wet all week, so the conditions weren’t great that’s for sure.
“The Tigers turned over a fair bit more ball than we did, so the boys concentration in those conditions was good to see.
“It was a good performance from all 17 players.”
The Roos won their match a few hours before the Sydney Roosters defeated the Gold Coast Titans 28-18 last night.
Not all of the Roosters squad made the trip to the Gold Coast however, with some players dropping back to play for Taylor’s side in their emphatic victory.
Dale Copley scored a hat-trick, Jayden Nikorima scored two, while Johnny Tuivasa-Sheck, made his debut on the wing.
“We’ve had a couple of sessions together, the Roosters boys are working hard to fit in,” Taylor says.
“Obviously we are doing the same trying to keep the calls roughly the same with little things like that.
“All of the Roosters boys that have been coming up for a few weeks now have come over and not been kicking stones, they’re just trying to improve their footy and get to where they want to be.”

    Thanks for that roosterproud.
Maybe they should get Cornish to show Pearcy how it's done.
If the Roosters top grade stays fit I think the Roos will be unstoppable.

Good read, thanks Roosterproud. Really seems like the attitude is spot on this year! Wonder what it's down to? Is it Trent's magic? Hurt pride? Competition for spots? The absence of Hastings? The arrival of Keary and Gordon? Pearce pulling his head in? The Nines title? Has Matt King had an impact on morale? Probably a combination of factors?

Bloody good question. From reading different reports on the game all these guys were mentioned so this is what I came up with

          1.
          2. Johnny Tuivasa-Sheck
          3. Dale Copley
          4. Paul Momirovski

          6. Jayden Nikorima
          7. Mitch Cornish
          8
          9. Mitch Williams

          10
          11. Brock Gray

          12. Chris Smith
          13.

Josh Mantellato plays wing but could of been the FB
Zane Tetavano plays FR or lock
Justin Toomey-White plays second row so he could of been in the back row with Chris Smith playing lock & Tetevano FR.
          Chris Centrone plays centre/wing

Hope you are right Mickie but I will say it's not a bad standard comp this year...after checking the team lists.

Didnt realise Josh Mantellato was with wyong, he's a freakish goalkicker, too bad he doesn't offer too much else at a first grade level.

And Carter didn't get a game on the weekend?

This 21 man squad is another dumb nrl idea that shows no thought for the fans or the NSW cup.
Why would anyone waste their money buying the big league anymore?
Every idea the nrl has had for the lower grades has sucked.

Yeh and Pearce can teach him everything else about Rugby League while he is rubbing his premiership ring in his face.

BTW, any chance you can get rid of those sticky threads at the top of the thread list page. Quite a few are irrelevant now. It would be good to have more of the current threads listed on this page. Thank you.
