Looking forward to the season and in particular the performances of Gordon, Keary and Pearce. What I'm not looking forward to are the defensive displays of numbers 2 through 5 - not a noted defender amongst them and I hope coach is working on this obviously weak point of the Roosters.

I remember coming home from Billy Joel concert at Hordern pavilion in 80s and bumping into Brian outside the Sports Ground in his Roosters gear.

Camping out overnight vs the Bears. Made me realise how much he loved the team and what a psycho he was. Lol

I must say, the last 2 years made for an unhappy Flipper, particularly with the way we went out in 2015. Naturally I want the Chooks to do well. I know there are a lot of optimists on here, and I'd counsel you all to temper your expectations. After all it is still predominantly the same team as last year.

Other than the addition of Pearce,Cordner,JWH, keary and Gordon all there from the get go. We were never a chance with the start we had last year.

I just have this feeling that he is going to be much better than most expect & by rd 13 when the Chooks are leading the comp people will be raving about him.

Where gunna win the comp Flipper Hands. Guerra & Toups are going to make sure we win it.
The Chooks just have to make sure they win in rd 1 or otherwise the season is over.

I'd be with you there, however we didn't finish much stronger than we started. I do think Gordon was a good buy, I'm just not convinced with Keary. Yet.

@ML I sure hope we do win it

I see we are now seeded 5 by the TAB, up from 8 or 9 a week ago.Just waiting for the NSW and Holden cup odds to come up and I will have a stab at the trifecta.

I always look forward to the start of the season - if only so I don't have to watch any more soccer or cricket!

Bring on the 24/7 league channel on Fox so I can overload on footy in 2017. I know some of it will be repeats and crap, but I'd prefer that to much of what's on tele nowdays.

I don't have any great expectations of the team, but a top 8 finish would be nice. All I hope for is that we do better than last season!

Mind you, the last time I didn't have any great expections (2013) we won the bloody comp, so anything is possible.

A few weeks ago I was not interested in this season at all.

A combination of how terrible last season was for us and the officials (especially the bunker) meant I couldn't care less.

What a difference the Nines win and some good reports coming out of the Manly trial have made.

Now I am counting the minutes until we put the cleaners through the Gold Coast imposters next weekend.

                            Can't wait.

                            GO EASTS!
Kudos for getting it right -- "champing" and not chomping.

And I'm looking forward to the season, too. Top 5 material.

It’s champing at the bit, not chomping at the bit.
This phrase (or idiom) comes from the sport of kings: horse racing. A bit is part of the apparatus that goes in the horse’s mouth and connects to the bridle and reins so the horse can be controlled and directed by the jockey on its back. The bit fits into a toothless ridge of the horse’s mouth, so the horse never really bites the bit. But it can grind his teeth or jaw against the bit, and if it does, it means that the horse is either nervous, or really excited about racing. That’s how the phrase “champing at the bit” entered everyday communications: to indicate extreme eagerness.
But “chomping” has come to replace “champing” in this phrase. It makes sense, to a degree, because “chomping” is a far more common word than “champing,” and would seem to relate back to the phrase’s origin, because horses’ mouths have teeth, and teeth “chomp.” However, champing is a similar word with a similar meaning to chomp—it means “to grind teeth.” The original phrase works.
