  • Tedesco

Tony Adams reporting this morning on Twitter that the Sydney Roosters have dropped out of the race to sign James Tedesco.

Maybe we would have had to blow up our team too much to sign him.

Oh well, what other fullbacks are on the market?

I'm convinced that left centre is Mitchell's best position- at least for the next few years.

I wouldn't mind seeing what Watson could do at fullback at some point.

Mitchell's best position is centre based on what besides trying to draw obvious correlations with inglis?

Don't really need Teddy anyway....Latrell should be our long term fullback priority.

You may be right Tommy. I'd love to see Watson get a crack at fullback and maybe that's one of the reasons they dropped off Tedesco.
I don't believe 9s is much of an indicator when it comes to how your team will go in the NRL comp, but the way Connor Watson set up Lewis to win that 9s game at the death shows he is an intelligent footballer who can also ball play. Big aspects of a fullbacks game. Not sure how he would go with the defence and communication part of it but there is only one way to find out. And he has played plenty of juniors at fullback.

Having Watson at fullback also allows the Coach to play Paul Carter on the bench as utility. Maybe that's their way of thinking.

                Agree with all of that.

To me he could be a classic modern day fullback. Granted he's not big but so what?

He might well be the quickest player in the NRL over 10m. He also has great footwork with a lovely natural 'in and away' move.

Combine that with his ball playing skills that he displayed in the 9s and it makes him a potentially devastating option out the back in a sweeping backline movement as fullbacks tend to be involved.

The Eels are going with Bevan French at fullback and Watson wouldn't be any smaller than he. They're both lightning quick and Watson would have the edge as a ball player.

Defence and communication are the key areas he'd need to develop but from all reports he's a very hard trainer and a great kid so I see no reason why he can't excell in those areas with practice.

With his natural instincts I reckon he'd be great at sniffing around the ruck and backing up a break; something all the best fullbacks do too.

You'd have to think he's being considered for 2018.

Another big name we can't snare, I'm happy with all those guys staying at the Tigers, but we have to accept the pulling powers that the roosters had are now gone.

We always seem to go with low-ball offers and hope players will accept it based on the fact that we are the Roosters. That model no longer seems to be working as well as before.

How would you know from Hong Kong what the Roosters offer anyone because even us living in Sydney Australia wouldn't know what the Roosters are offering players.
Ah but maybe Nick & Trent confide in you?

                        Good thread derail in 3...2...1...

I think all clubs have lost their pulling power as the cap has increased so much.

Perhaps when the cap was a paltry 3.25m just 12 or so years ago, those little TPAs on the side made all the difference.

But now with a soon to be 10mill cap with guaranteed funding to all clubs everyone can afford to pay a couple of big stars 1m a year deals.

And that sort of money talks. See Ben Hunt to the Dragons.

I think they are actually getting smarter Elvis. If we got Tedesco how much would we have to give up? I'd say a lot. Paying a huge amount of money for Tedesco , and I'd say as good as he is it would have to be way overs to get him, doesn't make a lot of sense when you have Mitchell Watson and Ferguson.

I agree mate. I prefer to see a nice balance across the squad as well. With Watson and Mitchell developing rapidly it would seem going with our own guys is the best choice. Still it would be nice to get one of the JTs.

I think other teams have caught up to us in regards to salary cap management and attracting star players. Perhaps some are even turned off by the goldfish bowl type of existence our players face these days. It must be a lot more attractive to be relatively anonymous vs being followed and photographed all the time.
