  • Tony Archer is fake news

Following an announcement by the NRL regarding changes to the video bunker, Tony Archer had this to say:

"Five errors out of 709 video referee referrals were recorded in 2016, which is a significant improvement on 2015," Mr Archer said.

Five errors! They ****ed us over alone at least a dozen times on try/no try calls! The offside call on what would have been our match winning try vs Manly takes the cake. Or does the one vs the Titans with the 'obstruction call' take the cake?

5 errors he says! FIVE ERRORS ALL YEAR This absolute stain on the underpants of NRL integrity is taking the piss.
The NRL Bunker will rule on point-scoring plays, in-goal restarts and reportable foul play only in the 2017 NRL Telstra Premiership.

The penalty against Dylan Napa for tackling a Dragons player to hard when the Roosters had them under the pump was another pearler.

Tony Archer only considers it an error when they don't follow the process.

The outcome doesn't matter it's just all about the process. So painful listening to him talk.

To be successful in Tony Archer's role you need to remove ego, have sound judgment and be open, transparent and put the fans first.

Tony is a total failure in his role

They need someone with common sense and honesty in that position.
If they could admit when they stuff up , rather than try and cover it up , this would be a great start and help improve the concept.
At the moment , it's just getting too much wrong , and needs to add more technology.
I always go back to that game vs Man;y where we should have won and that offside call that Aubo, I think, was said to be in front of the kicker.
Blind Freddy could see he was onside.

what Tony Meant to say , there was only 5 errors during the year. This is where they had an opportunity to totally screw us over 5 times, and they failed to do it.

I just can't bear to watch him talk. Not just because of the times we've been screwed by poor refereeing either. I just find him incredibly arrogant.

Agreed... be interesting to see how many times the bunker got it wrong according to the commentators. I know they're not refs, but Gus and the like know their footy. I reckon the figures would be significantly different if it was based on how many times the commentators said either 'that was the wrong call' or 'the on-field decision prevented the correct call from being made because relevant factors were not considered'. Or even... 'that was right, but it was inconsistent with the norm'.

It's a bit like thumbing through Bronwyn Bishop's travel receipts. Were any an abuse of process that could lead to her sacking? No. Were any a blatant misuse of entitlements? Hell yeah.

They produce their own rubber stats to justify their existence. Nobody takes it seriously.

I ever wonder what Sponsors and especially the TV Networks really intent to lose with the constant errors from the Bunker. I mean the wrong decision (which is 90% of the time) encourage viewers not to watch any more so the ratings go down. The only company to benefit from it is KFC, but then people just turn off the TV and most likely do not drive to KFC to get something to eat...

Best example, ANZAC day. The Roosters made it interesting only to have the bunker get INvolved in which ended that game and people walked out of the stadium and turned off the TV. There's money lost there!!!!

Double Knock Ons and 40/20's were not the key mistakes from the Bunker but yet now they are not allow to judge on those easy things... I really think Archer has not taken the advice of coaches and the clubs and is only making this change out of complete stupidity.

BRACE YOURSELF.... THIS IS GOING TO BE ANOTHER BAD SEASON FROM THE OFFICIALS AND BEN CUMMINS WILL BE ON MOST OF OUR GAMES.

This is an accurate assessment of the situation.. All they can do is follow the process and go by the letter of the game law.. So take away all the emotion and its correct. No one is saying that the law is perfect either.. but getting on here and having a whinge about it just shows how blinkered passionate supporters can be.. Do you not think EVERY club was "shafted" with "Common Sense" decisions throught out the course of the year ?? . ITS NEVER gonna be perfect because its refereed by HUMANS and not every situation/game law is BLACK and WHITE, just face it, suck it up and move on..

                            .

As bad as the bunker are, I feel more confident with them making the decisions than I ever would if Gus and the rest of 9 commentary team were in charge.

                            ...

yeah but some humans are more perfect than others.
