Very sad news indeed. He must have been in a really dark place on his 50th birthday.

The Moon brothers were solid first graders in their day. Both David & Jason spent 2 or 3 seasons at Souths when Piggins was coach from 1986 to 1990.

Jason was a winger with lots of pace. David was a centre with average level skills for his time.

I was a league tragic during this period, & remember every player who played for Souths in the mid to late 1980s. When I saw the article I knew exactly who it was. RIP & my thoughts are with the Moon family.

I lost my sister to a heroin overdose in 2016. Things do get better with time, & that would be my message to the grieving Moon & Robinson families.

Thanks for those kind words; it is appreciated.

I'm sure many others have and have been through similar situations. For me personally, I found it relatively easy to get over the grief of losing my sister (sounds heartless I know). Upon reflection, I think a major reason for this was that my daily life was not greatly impacted.

My late sister and I were not terribly close for a long time, given her addiction to various substances over the years (especially alcohol).

Furthermore, we hadn't lived in the same house for many, many years, and I have a wife and son to spend every day with. For Chad's kids and partner the grief would be shocking, as the daily life and routine has been ripped apart. I'm not sure whether Jason had a partner/kids.

I grew up with Jason, I caught up with him between Christmas and New year as we were both in the gong for a few beers. He was a champion bloke and the news on his suicide has rocked all of our mates to the core. I have been looking for signs from our night out that something was wrong, driving myself nuts in the process. RIP Jase

              That sux
Plz dont beat yourself up looking for clues or answers.
I cant speak for your mate, but I have been real close to the point he broached a few times, and can only say the despair you feel when at that point is something you wouldnt want people to notice. Appearing cool becomes important/
If he seemed happy in your company that night in the gong, he probably was.
              You cant read peoples minds.
              so sorry
