Life? I dunno what he's been charged with but 1kg of cocaine is a 'large commercial quantity' arrording to Schedule 1 of the Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act 1985 (NSW). 500kg... damn mate!!

Back to s 33(3)(a) of the Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act 1985 (NSW)... shyte! Yeah the max penalty is life for a large commercial quantity (ignoring the fact he could be charged with other offences as well). Life and/or 5000 penalty units (1 penalty unit = $110, so $550,000). Even if he were to 'get off' you'd think he'd owe some underworld figure his share in 500kg of cocaine. I dunno how much that is, but good luck... maaaate!

The penalty if convicted for that amount is life, however with thd legal process who knows how long he will get if convicted, maybe his lawyers can get him a reduced sentence via plea bargaining etc...
