I know I will get shouted down here but....If he would stay off the piss and had taken his career seriously enough I would say Carney had it all over Jimmy imo.

Why would you get shouted down you are %100 correct, when on his game one of the best halves i have seen, could do anything, he single handedly won us plenty of games in his time here and carried the other muppet along for the ride.

Once again we got rid of the wrong half but hey mediocrity is great

        You are spot on man.

Carney had all the ingredients, unfortunately his brain was overcooked.

          Anyway...2016...the season that was.

Of course, had we re-signed Maloney for 3 years...he could've broken his leg and been out for the season...or suddenly fallen in love with snow and ice and gone to live in Canada.
The Club and team should be more than one player.
We need several players trained in each position...including goal-kicking.

Shut down Maloney...you win the game.
Surprises me that coaches haven't worked out how to do that yet...legally of course.

Yes you are being shouted down alright, but that you're right re Carney but I also feel that Andrew Walker coulda been better than both and brought us much needed success but it wasn't meant to be... Can't recall what happened in the 90's that much. Perhaps like the 80's, it was best to forget.

Carney is hands down the most talented half we have had since Freddy. If he had stayed off the piss we probably would be mentioning him in the same breath as Freddy.

The Carney situation could have been handled better from the start - the working in a qld pub was just plain dumb especially if a alcoholic. The romantic story around that didn't wash with me. Later the club should have encouraged him to go to Betty Ford - the club I believe let Carney down yet it appears the club have learnt because the club took my advice re Pearce going to rehab overseas.

The most naturally gifted player I've ever seen.

Was still killing it in the Ipswich A-grade comp up here last year in his 40s.

Yeah Carney at his peak had a lot of Freddy's gifts. The great long passing game and the dynamic ball running.

The big difference was defence. Carney was a liability where as Freddy was technically the best defensive 5/8th I've ever seen.
