Tackle Two – Roosters chicks kicked-out of the Burrow
Add another chapter to the age old Rabbitohs-Roosters rivalry.
Two weeks ago the South Sydney Junior League wrote to their counterparts at Eastern Suburbs with some bad news.
After including Roosters’ junior teams in their competitions for the past two decades, Souths advised that they no longer intended to uphold the arrangement going forward into 2017.
The Roosters kids relied on being part of their neighbour’s league, because they simply don’t have enough clubs to form their own.
We understand Souths have been frustrated over the Roosters poaching several of their promising young juniors.
The final straw was Australian Schoolboys prodigy Nat Butcher, who joined the Roosters two years ago from South Eastern Seagulls.
Souths made specific mention of the 19-year-old’s defection in their letter. The Roosters are still hopeful of a change of heart.
If there’s not 740 junior players – including the youngest son of immortal Andrew ‘Joey’ Johns – could be without a home next season.
