The optimist in me reads this to suggest you butter Jake up and then "honourably" remove captaincy

The Jack Gibson medal award is given to the player that the players have voted for so the Roosters management & coaching staff would have to acknowledge that Jake is thought of in high regards by his peers.
2016 wasnt a good year for the club because of all different reasons but I dont think Jakes captaincy was a contributing factor & you could argue that Jake was captain or co captain in 2015 when they won the minor premiership taking them 1 game from making the GF so he has been a successful captain.
But me personally I would give it to Cordner because I think he is the Roosters best & most passionate player.
