  • Lou Goodwin

I see Lou Goodwin has made it into the final 3 in the NRL Rookie. The final is on tonight, so the winner of the 1 year NRL contract will be announced.

Does anyone know how this will work? You can't force a club to take a player, or to commit Salary Cap dollars to a player they didn't choose, so I assume that the winner will get a minimum $ contract payed by the NRL (not the club) for 1 year, perhaps at a club of their choice, or has that got to be negotiated?

Regardless, it's great to see Goodwin get this far, he was always a talented footballer.

Can he make it in the NRL? Would he be any benefit to us?

    I'm interested in opinions.

He's killing it and I reckon we will be in the box seat to sign him. Hopefully he takes it out.

How does the guaranteed NRL contract work?

Wouldn't have thought the NRL could force a club to sign a player where there is no capacity.

I'd be guessing that regardless of the rules, the final 3 will get some interest from NRL clubs if they are any good.

he walked out on us when he was killing it in the NYC as he didn't want the city lifestyle and training demands, why would we sign him again now.

Apparently the winner will be sat in front of all the NRL clubs, the ones that want him will put forward their case, the ones that dont want him, will not offer anything, i believe it is a 50k NRL contract they will sign with the club they select.

Hyde is a very good dummy half but is 29
Young Martin( son of Paul martin) is quick but cannot tackle and struggles with fitness
Goodwin is the best player by far, runs hard, tackles hard, hit holes, very smart footballer, would have played 1st grade at the Roosters if he did not get homesick and head back to Albury, i was told that both Goodwin and Martin are playing at MOunties in Ron Massey and Hyde up in Newcastle.

if they are fair dinkum, Lou will win this easily and if the Chooks are fair dinkum, we will sign him, but i fear the Raiders and Storm as they are closer to his family in Albury.

Becasue getting somebody with his quality at 50k for next season is a bargain

Pretty sure Fletch realises that 🤔. The point is, and as he points out to BigChook, the guy has already shunned the city lifestyle. So why would we be in the box seat to sign him.

Cause he was a young country kid who didn't understand the opportunity he had. Now after a few years kicking shit on a farm he probably appreciates what he had and is desperate for another crack. And if anything, a 50k contract for a player with obvious potential pays for himself. We certainly could use the positive media publicity he would generate being the first rookie.

he says himself that he has matured a lot and realises he threw something good away and wants it back.
I like the concept of the show but hope they don't flog it like a dead horse year after year.
Hyde at 29 would be a good pick up for some clubs. He'd be as keen as because he realises this is it for him

What an embarrassing end to the show. Only the Raiders and Titans said they wanted him... all 14 other clubs said no thanks!

I thought it was ridiculous that they didn't explain the parameters of his contract? How much did the clubs have to pay? Is he automatically in the top 25? Were there exemptions from the cap in any way? They were the important things I wanted to know. Not clips from the series. He probably will fit in well with Canberra. Good luck to him.

As it appears that this contract is not cap exempt, the clubs had to not only want him, but have the cap space and vacancy in their roster for it to be viable. It could have been worse .... none of them might have been able to take him.

Boor bastard. Choice of Titans and Raiders. What an anti-climax.
IMHO Clubs did not take the show seriously when Chris Hyde disregarded because of his age. He was a standout with Goodwin
