There is no new rule around gripping the ball. The rule they are using has always been in place. If you lose control of the ball, you must regain control before grounding it for a try. In both cases (Toops and Burgess) they have ruled that the player has lost control and not regained it before grounding the ball. In both cases I think they are wrong, but that's how they are ruling on it. In the case of a loose ball in the in goal, you just have to groun d it you don't have to gain control of it.

I respect all our moderators here. Past present and even future. Always have done and always will do a wonderful job.

There are as many mistakes from humans who work in the bunker as what there are from referrers on the field. This strategy of perfection is a big blight on the game.
Ive said this for years now they need to go back to 1 ref take the mike's off him & get rid of the video refs. There will be mistakes just like there is now but they will save a heap of money & decisions will be made straight away & the game will not be held up like it is.
Just like now with all the technology you win some & you lose some.

Shocking decision i thought.
Can you still ground the ball with your chest?
In the case of the Storm last week can you ground the ball with you forearm and then body?
WTF IS GOING ON. THE EFF WITS ARE COSTING CLUBS WINS, OR AT LEAST A BETTER CHANCE AT WINNING. ITS A DISGRACE AND I CANNOT WAIT FOR ARCHER TO DEFEND THIS DECISION.
AN ABSOLUTE HOWLER.Roosters For Ever

These decisions are momentum changers. For teams not going so well that means losing them the game. And by 'them' I mean us.Roosters For Ever
