  • CAM SMITH AND BADGER HALF TIME CHAT

Did anyone notice how Cam Smith and Badger stopped on the field at half time for a cup of tea and chat?

Amazing that the penalty count in the second half was 4-0 to the Storm after they conceded 5 in the first half.

These refs get star struck when the Australian captain approaches them.

Yeah I noticed that and agree. It's not a professional look seeing them have a cup of tea together at 1/2 time during an adjournment. It might not impact anything, but it's a bad look.

It's a bit like I dunno... a lawyer for the defendant in a matter seeing the judge and the plaintiff's solicitor shaking hands and having a laugh together

Exactly. Imagine Jake trying to talk to a ref for that long !! Smith can be a grub but the fact is he is a freak player and even better Captain !

Yeah and don't get me started on Cronk's try... THEY DIDN'T EVEN CHECK IT!!!!! There was a single full-speed replay that we saw half of.

The assumption was that he's Goober Gronk so he woulda timed it perfectly... he never breaks the rules because he is so good. Yeah, he didn't just get given 10 in the bin during Origin for a professional foul... nup...

IMO it was poor officiating because Gronk was in front of a line and the kicker was standing behind that line. Had the bunker at least made a serious attempt to review the decision the woulda seen that.

On the other hand when... (SST?) took out Gronk while he was kicking, the MEDIA did a zillion replays (which the ref and bunker both watched multiple times and almost called a penalty). We have the bunker and then we have the 'media replay'. Why is the 'media replay' essentially a 2nd (selective) bunker used to scr3w teams over?

Captains have a right to talk to the ref at half time. Rather than bag out Cam Smith for doing it I'd rather bag out Jake friend for being incapable of speaking to, let alone influencing the ref. James Graham regularly talks to the ref at half time. Jamie Lyon is the worst in the game for it by taking to them when he isn't allowed. I'm surprised he doesn't get pulled up more. Just goes to show the value or a real captain and not someone just playing with the c.

It was more a bagging of Badger for going all soft at the knees when Smith came up for a chat. It obviously helped fix their discipline after the break.

Yeah for sure. I wish we had someone capable of doing it. Captain needs to be level headed. You don't influence shit by yelling in their faces and arguing. Smith is so calm when reacting to shit calls.

The game managers appear to show more respect to those that play for Australia.

Very true. I'm pretty sure gallen was awarded a penalty against the knights last week because garbutt tackled him too hard.

I watch Friend approach refs at halftime. The refs almost run to get off the field. What surprised me was the ref stopped and wanted to chat. Is it the persuasive influencing powers of the Australian Capt or the degree of partiality in the game? Let the fans decide...
