I know right now it is really easy to point fingers for us fans who sit behind a keyboard and a TV and we would all be singing praises and change our tunes if we were winning but.....
There are some players in this team that are so called established first graders that making school boy errors. Not once or twice, but nearly every game and about 3 to 4 times a game.
As much as the fingers have been pointed at the likes of Guerra, Ferguson and Friend as some of those that have had a bad season, one player whom I never understood why we signed him in the first place and he has done nothing to convince me otherwise since is DALE COPELY.
The bloke is completely lost in defence. He has no idea where his winger is, or where his inside defender is. No communication.
Now it is easy to blame a young player playing inside Copely, such as Watson last night. But if you watch all the tries we conceded on Copely's side last night, nearly every one of them is due to Copely's fault. He is a so-called established first grade footballer. If Watson is not communicating, Copely is experienced enough to let Watson know what he needs to do.
But Copely has been found out rushing in and tackling no one numerous times. The excuse of being a new player at the club does not fly with me, when you consider how often players change teams these days and adjust quickly.
Once again our recruitment for 2016 leaves so much to be desired and you wonder what the likes of POS and Robbo were thinking. In one of the other threads, one of the posters mentioned how Michael Gordon and Ashley Taylor were just sitting there with no offers till late in the year. Given Ashley Taylor was a unknown commodity, you wonder what the club was thinking when they did not go in for Michael Gordon, who would have replaced Maloney with the goal-kicking and helped replace RTS at fullback.
Another player that baffles me was Ian Henderson!
Then in another surprising move, when James Roberts contract bungle happened at the Titans, I wonder what POS and Robbo were doing if they knew the whole time that they were looking to let Jennings leave. At that point, why not go after a player like Roberts who has speed to burn and even at that time is a better player than Copely. Now thanks to them we are effectively stuck with Copely's contract for the next year or 2.
To me, there are only seems 1 legitimate reason - that being the success of the 2013-2015 started to make the likes of POS and Robbo feel comfortable. Started to let them think that they could sign any player they wanted and they would look good playing in the Roosters structure however bad they were at their clubs. They started to think they had found the key to Bellamy and Melbourne's success. How wrong they were! We can only hope they have now learnt their lesson and the recruitment in the coming years improve because even though Robbo has recently signed on till 2019, I am not sure how long more he will last if he continues to sign players like Copely & Henderson again.
