Sack JWH...

JWH was penalised as a square up because the ref realised he stuffed up the play before when he penalised Melbourne for a high shot on Pritchard after he had fallen in the tackle. It was the classic square up except what the red forgot was that his original penalty to us, only cost Melbourne one extra tackle whereas the very dubious penalty against JWH cost us 5 tackles inside their 20m at a time when the game was still very much in the balance. It was a shit penalty and should never have been blown. It wasn't for an incorrect play the ball, it was for hands in the face and the replay clearly showed JWH copping as much as he had given in the tackloe and was in no way the aggressor.

He surged into the markers, possibly realised the error of his ways and took a 1/2 step back, but by then it was too late as the penalty had been given. He even put his hand up to his teammates acknowledging his own stupidity
Another very dumb penalty from JWH, almost as bad as the one he gave away on the stroke of halftime against someone earlier in the year that resulted in a try.

Did you watch the game...the ref said the penalty was for hands in the face, not for the play the ball.Originally posted by tony the wheel View PostHe surged into the markers, possibly realised the error of his ways and took a 1/2 step back, but by then it was too late as the penalty had been given. Penalty was for hands in the face.......video proves there was no hands in the face. Surge or no surge, he did not take out a marker, he made an attempt to get back on the mark.Originally posted by tony the wheel View PostHe surged into the markers, possibly realised the error of his ways and took a 1/2 step back, but by then it was too late as the penalty had been given. we see plays like that everyweek and they are not called as a penalty.
I would have no problem with that as a penalty, as long as others are being consistantly called as well.

There is no question that there are times that JWH gives away stupid penalties, but the guy is 22 - very young for a prop. He still has a lot to learn, but he is currently holding his own and often coming out on top in the front row against much more seasoned props. Front row is one position we have a lot of talented players developping with Kennedy, Mose, JWH and Tasi. At a young age, all of them have already shown they can cut it as FGs. They won't reach their potential for a few years yet. Hopefully the club are looking at these guys as long termers so we can actually reap the benefits of our investments.
Its good to see Ryles playing well. We will need him playing well again next year while these guys develop.

This post is retarded.
He provides immediate enthusiasm and aggression off the bench.
Two qualifiers:
He's not a prop; and
He needs to control his emotions / aggression (as does the rest of them)
Used correctly, he's Tallis-esque.
Super-sub the lunatic for another season then let him mature to a starting second rower.

They baited JWH and once again he took the bait, smarter footballers would have realised in the context of the game the best bet would have been to get up, play the ball and hit them on the scoreboard. There was plenty of niggle on the ground by bothe JWH and the tackler, no more than any tackle, no penalty was warranted, unfortuantely JWH has a rep withe the officials and will be penalised 9/10 times.Originally posted by supermario View PostPenalty was for hands in the face.......video proves there was no hands in the face. He is a very very good footballer, will be even better when he learns to control himself and use his head.

Your spot on with the last part PWN, he has improved so far this season and will improve even more as he grows...........Oh what will it take to have Moz come back to Australia and coach this young tyro !!!!!!!!Originally posted by pearcesworstnightmare View PostThey baited JWH and once again he took the bait, smarter footballers would have realised in the context of the game the best bet would have been to get up, play the ball and hit them on the scoreboard. There was plenty of niggle on the ground by bothe JWH and the tackler, no more than any tackle, no penalty was warranted, unfortuantely JWH has a rep withe the officials and will be penalised 9/10 times.

I agree, but its even worse when the player penalised did nothing to warrant a penalty. As PWN said....his reputation cost him. Coaches tell players to 'play the ball and not the man'.....Harrigan needs to tell his refs to ref the game and not the player.Originally posted by tony the wheel View PostFair enough - probably makes it just that little bit dumber
Giving a penalty away when you have the ball is unforgiveable

Sometimes penalties are given because players sail close to the wind repeatedly, and then finally the ref has had enough and blows one. Like in a set where you can see for 2 or 3 tackles in a row the defence are laying on the tackled player just a little bit too long, and you just know that if they do it once more in that set there'll be penalty, whereas if that was the only time they did it it wouldn't be a penalty on its own. For all we know he was sailing close to the windOriginally posted by Headless Chook View PostI agree, but its even worse when the player penalised did nothing to warrant a penalty. I like him as a player, but penalties kill teams nowadays, and he gives away too many.
Any suggestion though that this penalty (or JWH himself) cost is the game is absurd. The main reason we lose games is because we can't score points, and for that the halves must shoulder most of the blame

The incident played a key role in deciding the outcome of the game, because of the fact we are struggling to score points.Originally posted by tony the wheel View PostSometimes penalties are given because players sail close to the wind repeatedly, and then finally the ref has had enough and blows one. If, and a big if, we had scored the momentum of the game changes completely.
Momentum is massive.Born and bred in the eastern suburbs.

The part in bold, thats the thing that irks me, Why shoud refs give warnings? when do the warnings stop? Do some players get more warnings than others.Originally posted by tony the wheel View PostSometimes penalties are given because players sail close to the wind repeatedly, and then finally the ref has had enough and blows one. if refs want players to stop pushing the boundaries then penalise them first up.
We all hear the refs warning the teams to get on side. and they warn them for 3 tackles, by that time, the defence has done it's job in stifling the attack and 4th tackle they are on side but the attack is done, over, dead.
If they infringe the rules, penalise. i would be happy if they did this for all teams consistantly, it may mean more penalties to begin with, but then it may mean the players learn and put in the effort NOT to make these simple mistakes.
