There was an article in the SMH stating Politis confronted Greenturd during SOO3 about how Pearce was raked over the coals earlier in the year and hardly nothing has been said about Norman. Good to see Politis standing up for our players.
I have cut and pasted it below.
Double standard!
Todd Greenberg and Nick Politis bumped into each other at Origin, and you can be sure the subject of Mitchell Pearce was raised. Because there is considerable anger coming out of Rooster-land that Pearce was hung, drawn and quartered, and so far Corey Norman*has escaped without anywhere near the level of scrutiny or punishment.
Pearce is a good-hearted man who wishes no ill will towards others. It's why he is a hugely popular player. Regardless, Pearce must be watching the Norman story unfold with great interest. A video filmed without his knowledge showing him in a drunken state and acting stupidly with a dog results in an eight-week ban, a $125,000 fine and cost him an Origin jumper. It virtually ended the Roosters' season.
At the time some ill-informed reporters called it the worst incident in NRL history. Players who heard that report still haven't forgotten how off the mark it was.
Pearce worked on his problems, and continues to do so. You don't beat alcohol issues overnight. And now there is a tape being offered for sale that shows Norman involved in a sex act. It's doubtful that was shot without his knowledge.
Those who know what's in it say it was impossible that Norman did not know he was being filmed. He didn't share this vision, but he did share vision that he shot of a third party, a non-league player, taking drugs.
And let's be frank here: if the key vision wasn't so graphic a television network would have considered buying it. It's certainly a ratings winner. Imagine the promo: "NRL star's sex tape." What has saved Norman from public humiliation the kind Pearce went through is the explicit nature of the tape.
The Eels players are believed to have seen that vision in their WhatsApp group. There is now a hunt on among the players to find out if there is a leak to the media from within that group. They were stunned that this reporter had a message that Kieran Foran had sent the group.
A bigger problem for the Eels is Norman's growing rap sheet: the sex tape, a drug conviction and a warning not to consort with criminals.
Norman has been ignored by the Queensland team because of his off-field reputation and he's had this coming. He is brilliant, but his mid-week partying has been the talk of rival teams for some time. Eels coach Brad Arthur knew that when Norman was signed and he is believed to be a lot better than he was three years ago which is really saying something.
Arthur has worked his butt off to help Norman off the field. And he has made steps. But he has a tough road ahead. As for the lawyer who was trying to sell the video, he has dumped the sellers of the video as clients.
What has been wrongly reported is that there was an attempt to extort money from Norman through his management group. However, the first that Norman's manager, Paul Sutton, knew of the video footage was when he received a phone call from an irate Ian Schubert. "Did you know about this?" barked Schubert, Parramatta's de facto chief.
