DECIMATED by injuries and Origin commitments, the Sydney Roosters were yesterday forced to approach the NRL for a salary-cap exemption just to field a team this weekend.

After summoning a battalion of replacements to cover 13 top-liners in the Tri-colours' casualty ward, the Roosters maxed out their $350,000 second-tier salary cap ahead of last Saturday's win over New Zealand.

I'm not 100% certain but I'll have a stab.

Whenever people out of the top 25 are called to fill in, they receive most likely match payments. You are allowed $350,000 of this type of playing arrangement.

The NRL Salary Cap for 2011 is $4.3m for the 25 highest paid players at each club. If each player was paid an equal amount, they would get $172,000 each.

Each club can exercise its discretion in relation to how much individual players are paid, providing that total payments do not exceed the $4.3m cap.

In addition to the $4.3m Salary Cap for top 25 players, each club may spend up to an additional $350,000 on players outside the top 25 who play in the NRL competition.

In 2008 the NRL introduced a new competition for players 20 years and under. Known as the Toyota Cup Under 20s Competition. It has a Salary Cap of $250,000 for the top 20 players who qualify for the Toyota Cup and do not sit in a club’s top 25 Salary Cap.

In addition to the Salary Cap for the top 20 Toyota Cup players, each club can spend an additional $50,000 on players outside the Toyota Cup top 20 who qualify and play in the Toyota Cup.

$350,000 / 13 rounds = $26,923 average in match payments per round.

How much money are these guys outside the top 25 are getting paid per game O_O

This applies to our registered players with Newtown.
If 5 of these players are contracted under the minimum wage of $60K and are called into first grade,even for one game,then you have effectively maxed out the second tier cap,which happened last week.
This week we need to call upon a couple more of our registered Newtown boys to debut in first grade this season,which will put us over this 350k cap limit.

What shits me is that several clubs have been granted a cap exception, but it's the fuuckin "rorters" that get dragged through the mud by the media, just cos we're the team to hate.
The tigers apparently got an exception earlier in the year, anyone hear about that one???

Newtown have there own contracted players,along with Rooster registered players.
All the Rooster registered players are paid the minimum wage [60k]by the Roosters.
Newtown contracted players are NOT registered to play first grade NRL...

Yes,some clubs pay bonus deals like that.
The problem then is that the fringe player then has that extra bonus factored onto their salary cap amount for the following year,which puts pressure on any other player off contract...
