Gday all. Just subscribed to the chook pen and this has probably been covered. I have supported the chooks since 74 and my blood runs red white and blue . I only read the Sunday paper and don't live in the city so am not up to speed on all the latest on our team . We have had a fantastic 3 years . Minor premiers 3 times and a premiership . Great stuff ! We have a lot of young and promising and exciting players on board that are sure to be supersrars of tomorrow . Nicorima and hastings are future star's . I just don't get why we let an experienced and dependable bloke like Maloney go as well as Jennings and Roger. Its a long way to go but we sure miss these fellows !

crab you ask a reasonable question and yes it hurts to see our castoffs like jimmy and jenno doing well at other clubs, all i can tell you is that jimmy wanted a 3year deal ( to look after his family) the roosters only offered 2 so he was released, the sharks saw quality and picked him up, the rts saga was a lot deifferent the kiwis stasrted getting into his ear at the world cup they made a mega offer that easts didnt even get the chance to ,match so he just went and signed with the warriers, the excuse being back with family, but his brother johny ts is still playing well at easts, dpont know where mum and dad are now?
hyope that helps a bit, yes were caught a bit short with experience at the cmoment but as swoon as any 1 of those players returns, weere a different team? thats imminent a few more weeks at most?

be very interesting tyo see who tr selects this week? our super sub hendo a leg injury? our jenko replacement an injury, so do we move skd back to centres bring back our pommie import burgo? and use another big bopper on the bench allowing maubs t6o give jake a break if needed? facinating stuff nrl?

Thanks for the insight stephenj. Jimmy is a huge loss ! not a flashy player but has a brilliant football mind the team benefited from his direction ! Big fan of Maubs under rated and sneaks in under the radar . Better day's ahead for the Roosters .

Hi Crab and welcome to the Chookpen. Stephen has covered your questions so all I'll add is that the release of Jennings seems to have to do with one of more of the following:
1. Salary cap management
2. Jennings' poor attitude
3. Copley's availability
Maloney is a big loss but his absence is compounded by the absence of Mr Australia Day and rest of the leadership group.
Stephen, I suspect Aubs will play 3, Frei will retain his spot and Vunakece or another backrower will come onto the bench. The problem with this approach though is the sole captain plays 80 as a hooker, not a friggin backrower for part of the time."The price of freedom is eternal vigilance."

Here is a view from a long time bunny who likes the chooks.
Given the loss of players through recruitment, injury and dumb actions, a slide by the chooks was inevitable. Was is surprising is the extent of the slide .
Truthfully, the chooks have been going well for a long time. The last prolonged period of mediocrity was between 1988 to 1994. In 1995 Gould started to rebuild, then Fittler was signed in 1996 & the chooks became very strong. 2009 was a disaster season but changes were made quickly with Carney purchased & Mason punted. One thing I have always liked is how uncle Nick does not tolerate losing for long. I expect some big signings for 2017.
Re my team, like SBW in 2013 S.Burgess is a once in a generation forward. If he stays healthy the bunnies may be a serious threat this year.
To be honest, having supported the bunnies for over 30 years & with at least 20 of these years having a crap team, I don't ride an emotional rollercoaster anymore so much.Last edited by bunnywithteeth; 03-19-2016, 01:19 PM.

Hi bunny,
Nice to get an outsiders view. My concern is not with the slide. That was to be expected. What I find alarming is the crisis... which I define as a landslide and the fact we appear as a club bereft of ideas of how to at least start to turn it around. I'm not buying the loss of our 1, 3 & 6 to other clubs excuse, nor the doggy boy being sidelined for his antics. We are still fielding 10 players out of our 17 each week who have played 3 or more years at the Roosters and still we haven't shown a single sign of improvement as a side. Sure there have been a few who have lifted, some significantly, but as individuals only. What's a set play these days? Going through the motions... we are barely getting that much done without a poor choice or unforced error at the end of it. It reminds me of calm on the surface and utter mayhem down below.

We don't have a captain on the field.
