  • Goal kicking!!!!!!

Yes we made some poor 5th tackle options and bad defensive decisions but If we had a reliable goal kicker we would of won comfortably.. There is no denying the importance of turning 4 into 6..!

I don't think that's the reason we lost, but yes... bit funny that we actively told Maloney to look elsewhere without having a backup plan.

Yeah, we got rid of him and hung on to an alcoholic.

Tell me how Hastings can play 80 minutes as half back with a quad strain but can't kick goals?

I found it interesting to hear Braith's comments in regards to why Hastings wasn't doing the goal kicking..
Given his involvement in the Club surely he would be aware if Hastings had a strained quad..
I also don't understand how he can play a whole 80 minutes with a quad strain!

point of difference - just because he has problem with alcohol doesn't make him an alcoholic

For a club to boast a fine front office I find it hard to fathom management don't have a recognised goal kicker. The past 20 years we have had some gems but a dud decision to let Makoney go then have a player playing his first game at FB in 1st grade as goal kicker - FMD

                  Releasing Maloney was criminal.

He was a Brian Smith recruit, so letting him go was obviously a Trent decision.

I'm finding it very very hard to fathom.

We lost 20-21 and missed 4/4 conversions. So yes, it is the exact reason we lost.

We did have a backup plan. He hurt his quad. We could obviously do with some more depth though.

I've been calling the missed goals by LM, the "Maloney Tax"

yeah handing over the kicking duties to hastings with limited first grade experience after having maloney a top 3 season point scorer is just plain dumb management.

I see why you might think that way, but I don't agree with the logic. It's like saying 'the only reason we lost a game of soccer is because the goalie let in a goal'. No single person can be held responsible when you look at the whole game.

                          My reckoning is:
                          - If the team hadn't let in so many p!ss weak tries, we mighta won.
                          - If we were better in offence, we mighta scored more.
                          - If the tries we scored weren't all out wide, Mitchell would have had an easier time converting.
                          - Had hastings gone for a drop goal rather than trying to run the ball himself (and had we setup a box for him like the Storm and QLD ALWAYS do for Cronk) then the scores woulda been even.

There's so many variables that go into it, and at the end of the day, we lost because of multiple faliures thoughout the game. I'm sure Robbo will work on them over the next few weeks (wonder if Joey can work on Latrell's kicking although he's not a half? IMO he's just getting psyched out a little. Other than that, he's frigging awesome given that was his 2nd NRL game ever!
