No surprises here. This is NRL, and our halves had half a dozen first grade games between them. Souths were always going to be hard/impossible to contain with Sam back. The return of their power game. Boring, brutal and effective.

Still, even with very little ball we obviously stung in defence. Both of their halves pulled up poorly.

I look forward to seeing Hastings and Nak against less formidable opposition.

2016 is a rebuilding season. Hopefully we'll blood some long term talent.

Souths were very good.

Even at our best we rarely blow teams off the park in the first quarter like that, without giving them a huge sniff to win later on.

Of course, the early penalty count was pretty full on.

I think there's a big difference between having an effective defence and being stinging in defence.

Stinging doesn't mean much when such hits are few and far between. We were dreadful in our line-speed, wrestle and goal line defence. We need to fix that ASAP
