I disagree. Unless Pearce was actually on his first and final (or simply final) warning at the time of his poor behaviour on Australia Day, I don't think his conduct reaches the threshold required to enforce the heaviest of sanctions. If he wasn't on any warnings (read being performance managed), his conduct would not justify a straight dismissal. There is ample industrial relations authority to support that proposition.

I agree with the comments on brand damage, etc. in saying that, however, even the likes of KPMG, PwC and others, would not dismiss one of theirs for Pearce's antics - as unacceptable as they were. Sacking someone isn't as easy (read without repurcussion or potential liability) as some people think it is. This isn't North Korea, or Albania, or Eygpt, or Cambodia, or Bolivia. No offence intended to folks from those parts of the world. My reference is more to industrial relations systems or lack thereof.

True. Also note that the incident was not in the workplace or at a work related event - it was in a private home and no laws were broken

As the recent carney events show, the NRL needs to tread a bit carefully - not Greenberg's strong suit regardless of how urbane the muppet thinks he is

        Laws?

How about public & commercial perception which have far more implication

The impact on children, fans, sponsors including those who don't follow the game

the punishment must relate to this...

My pride in this club has severely diminished because of that gimp

I hope uncle Nick considers this before referring to the book of loyalty

Maybe then that punishment should be metered out to channel 9 and the tele who bought the footage and promoted the shite out of it!!

The false outrage on this matter is sickening - two key stakeholders in our game made this a high profile story (including paying for the footage) which then knocks on to the impacts you talk about. Where are those pricks in this discussion?

Pearce is clearly a dickhead - the key media outlets that profit from the game are the ones that are parading the outrage for commercial gain and then complain loudest about the impacts - pure hypocrisy

What amuses me in the support of Pearce is had this been a player from another club All on here would think he should be sacked and would be outraged at not only the act but how.long this has all gone on for
I respect all our moderators here. Past present and even future. Always have done and always will do a wonderful job.

Come on Andy, that's not amusing at all - League is tribal and we support our own while we hate the others.

If this was rational then a bunch of adults wouldn't be arguing this on an internet forum :-)

He was the captain of the team and thought only of himself. For that alone the club should sack him.
Do you know for a fact that Pearce grabbed them and said 'c'mon boys, I'm the captain follow me'? I recall the girl in the video saying that Copley could stay he didn't have to go when they were evicting Pearce. Who's to say the girl hasn't invited Copley and Niko back and Pearce has just tagged along?

Interesting nothing has come out about the girl, maybe she is waiting for a big offer from 60 minutes to tell all

If reports are true that after the function the players were advised by club officials to go home then Pearce as captain should have led by example not led or get tagged along to this girls residence to continue the party, I believe that this is the anger most here are feeling that he should have acted a bit more responsibly considering his position and seniority within the club.

You can't say this was outside a club function etc etc. Players represent the brand 100% of the time what ever they are doing. Thats why they are paid what they are paid. ITs not just about playing RL anymore unfortunately its about revenue and the brand.

Saying that the RL commission, most of the NRL and CH9 bring the game into more disrepute than any player due to their own stupidity and inconsistencies
The Internet is a place for posting silly things
Try and be serious and you will look stupid
