aha! You can actually hear Smith mutter something to that effect during the broadcast. He was on the sidelines at that point and was screaming into his headpiece. I thought he was referring to JWH and was puzzled but this explains it all.Originally posted by supermario View PostI also found out after that smith made a call during the 2nd half. What a tough and talented man Lama is and what a farkwit Smith is for laying down such an ultimatum.
Smith, you need to look after your players, not abuse them you dipshit. And don't use the excuse you didn't know it was fractured ...

Mark Harris played in a semi final with a fractured leg.Originally posted by Mad_Rooster_In_Hong Kong View PostWhen you think about Smith was incredibly stupid to do such a thing. Where is the duty of care for his players?

Where does the duty of care stop though???
A player can say no they are not injured, can stomach the pain and continue to play.
If a player, like lama, shows no sign of injury and no sign of fracture is shown on an xray does the coach play one player down for 60 or so minutes or do they put the player back out there?

The sport has become a great deal more professional since the days of Mark Harris mate. Also, it was a semi-final. At this point in the season there is a long way to go, not to mention Tasi is still very young. None of us know the real story or the extent of the injury. As you say it is up to the player really.Originally posted by Vasco View PostMark Harris played in a semi final with a fractured leg.

It is one thing being able to stomach the pain - but Tasi needed 2 needles to go back on.Originally posted by supermario View PostWhere does the duty of care stop though???

This sort of policy or lack thereof, certainly isn't exclusive to the Roosters or Smith.
I think the league needs to assess whether they think it is safe for a player to be injured, needle up at half time and go back on. I don't think its safe. I would prefer a facility where backup players are available to come on in the event of a serious injury. Obviously this would need a lot of thought about how it is implemented so coaches don't train their players to 'pull a hamstring' when they get tired. It wouldn't be hard to put controls around such a rule though (e.g. the replacement player needs to have played in the 20s game earlier in the day, the replaced player can not play the next week etc)

Yep fair enough. Although in other cases we have seen the mismanagement of differernt injuries resulting in worse injuries (not just our club). I'm no doctor but Cherrington may possibly be such an example.Originally posted by supermario View PostWhere does the duty of care stop though???

im not sure you can leave it up to the players as being the best judge. the players would also have an overwhelming desire to please their coach and their team mates and also pressures for spots to stay in the starting line up may cloud their better judgement.
im also not sure how they judge that the injury did not get any worse if they did not do an xray before he went back on the field.
in saying that it is a contact sport and he was needed to continue playing as the team was fatigued. i wonder if we were sitting in 4th position would he have been risked...
