Hayne...has played his best football...can't tackle...and is yesterday's man...the time to sign him was 5 years ago.

Besides, he's now changed his body shape for NFL.

      No thanks.

Can't tackle? Yesterday's man? Hardly. I agree that his best football will now be behind him. Any significant period away from the game is going to hurt. 2 years and 10+ kgs lighter and he would really struggle to come back imo. He would have to play in the halves.

          Exactly.
Do we really want to be buying him for a squillion dollars...or at all?

I'd love him back with a full off season to work on size and strength but for him to play another nfl season and getting him back around January... I just don't think the obviously large financial investment will return. Not that first year anyway.

              Body shape and weight............blah blah.

Hayne is a freak of an athlete and would slot straight back into league. I still remember the same arguement for SBW before he came back to us.
              We then won a premiership.

                I agree.
In saying that for a fair bit cheaper and a long term prospect I'd rather Tedesco

Union and league are much more similar than nfl and league. Hayne is a freak of a league player, one of the best I've seen on his day. But 2 years out of any professional sport is a long time and it only takes half a second to separate the champions from the journeymen.

I think Hayne would return to league a better player than what he was when he left. I don't subscribe to the theory that the loss of body weight and 18 months out of the game would be detrimental. This is a guy who has been playing NRL since 2004, and now he's had a period where he's played about an hour of footy. He would be fresh and raring to go

I can't see any scenario where a professional athlete can leave the game at their peak for 18-24 months and come back better than when they left.

It's bizarre how much form Hoppa lost whilst on his mission.

I rate Justin Carney higher these days.

I thought about the hoppa example. He was a beast of a kid when he left and a shadow upon return. I suppose the difference between him and hayne was that I think happy didn't train at all during his absence?

I second that. The kid has been playing league since he could walk. He's not gonna lose it coz he played nfl for a couple of seasons.

Exactly. There is no comparison there. And to be honest young Hoppa was not even close to Hayne even when he was at his best for Manly. In fact I think he was over rated. He was a good player who was lucky the lunatics were running the assylum at Parra.
                                Or maybe he was unlucky.
