    Michael Jennings granted immediate release

The Sydney Roosters have today agreed to release centre Michael Jennings from the final year of his playing contract to allow him the opportunity to secure his long-term future at another NRL club.

Roosters Chief Operating Officer Football, Brian Canavan, said: “It is with reluctance that we have granted this request for Michael’s immediate release. However, we do so with the view that it is in his best interests to secure his long-term future.”

Jennings, who made his Club debut in the opening round of the 2013 season – playing 71 first grade games for the Roosters – said: “While I’m sad to be leaving, I know it’s the right call for my long-term future and I’m excited about that.

“I’m a better person for my time at the Roosters. From Robbo and all the staff and players, I’ve been part of a great family at the Club. I’ve made some lifelong friends over the last three years and the Roosters will always be special to me,” he added.

Roosters Head Coach, Trent Robinson, thanked 27 year-old Jennings – who scored a memorable try in the Roosters 2013 Premiership win – for his service to the Club.

“Jenko is a good man and I’ve loved coaching him. He’s had a big impact on the development of some of the younger players at the Roosters, and his contribution will live long in the memories of everyone associated with the Club,” said Robinson.

“I know I speak on behalf of everyone associated with the Roosters in wishing Jenko and his wife Kirra all the very best,” he added.

The Sydney Roosters would like to thank Michael for his service to the Club and wish him the best in his career moving forward.

    Roosters sign Dale Copley

The Sydney Roosters have today announced the signing of talented outside back Dale Copley.

Copley and the Roosters reached agreement overnight on a three-year contract that brings the 24 year-old to the Sydney club with immediate effect through to the conclusion of the 2018 season.

Roosters recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan believes Copley will be a valuable asset for the Roosters moving forward.

“We see Dale taking his game to the next level here at the Roosters, and with his signature being sought by a number of clubs, we are pleased to have secured his services,” said O’Sullivan.

“A member of Queensland’s emerging Origin squad, Dale is a tremendous finisher, blessed with wonderful footwork and a natural try-scoring ability. There’s no doubt that he will add some terrific depth to our outside backs, and we look forward to watching his game develop in the coming seasons,” he added.

Since making his NRL debut in 2009, Copley has played 72 top grade games, scoring 31 tries.

Michael Jennings is 27 Turning 28 in April and even though his defence improved under TR, you'd suspect that his best asset his speed would surely decline in the next season or two? i think this is a short term pain for a long term gain scenario for our roster.

The club is clearing cap space for new arrivals in 2017 and there really isnt any way we would offer MJ a similar deal, i cant remember a time we have offered our centres long term deals in their late twenties, Matt Sing, Ryan Cross, Shannon Hegarty come to mind in the last 15 years.
