I don't agree. I think it is very relevant and not racist. Perhaps the term 'canoe' could be considered racist but it is not meant with that intention. If we called them 'coconuts' that might be a different story.

Anyway, I love Polynesian players and we can't stereotype them all. For example, what do Benji Marshall and Mose Masoe have in common? Not much that I know of.
I think FPN is a perfect example of what we may call 'the canoe dilemma'. A superstar one day, MIA the next with very little clues left behind as to explain why.

Also, I don't think anyone is suggesting they should not be picked, it is more a matter of team balance. For example, if we have Banasta, Maubs and Symonds in the backrow it lacks the right balance. Similarly, a team of 17 coconuts (oops I mean Canoe) would be likewise imbalanced.

Sorry to steal your phrase Melon but I find this a very interesting idea worthy of its own thread. Is there such a thing as too much canoe? Two players that come to mind are FPN and Mose Masoe. On their day they look like world beaters and then they disapear into their canoe dreamtime. FPN is a lazy sack of shit if you ask me and I think he could be the next great salary cap burglar after Banasta. Mose Masoe at times looks like the toughest prop in the NRL and then the next week he is a pussy cat that looks like he is going into a coma after a 20 minute stint. What the fark is up with these guys?
