  • The Difference between a bad marriage and supporting The Roosters ...

You can get a divorce from a bad marriage but we are stuck with these bumbling farking idiots until we die.

How long is it going to be before things turn around? How did a season that promised so much end like this? Only two months ago we were all salivating for the start of the season now it is already over. We went from contenders to has-beens in a flash.

How many of you are depressed because of this team?

There are much worse things in the world to get depressed about than an under-performing football team.

I think this quote from Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse 5 sums up my attitude to the Roosters. He's talking about an alien race called the Tralfamadorians who don't perceive time in the way we do:

"When a Tralfamadorian sees a corpse, all he thinks is that the dead person is in a bad condition in that particular moment, but that the same person is just fine in plenty of other moments. Now, when I myself hear that somebody is dead, I simply shrug and say what the Tralfamadorians say about dead people, which is 'So it goes'."

Mate of course you are right. Actually that is a very Zen way of thinking about it. I was honestly stupid enough to believe we had a real shot at the title this year. At the very least I thought we would be one of the top teams week in, week out. As you point out eventually the team will get better and eventually they will get worse - this is how it goes - but man things have turned to shit so quickly this time.

Yep, lotsa sandy vaginas on here, it's been an interesting decade and a bit, and we've been spoilt really when you consider that the 15 odd years prior were VERY lean on highlights.
I grew up in a time where a win.....ANY win was like a GF. Being country boy, just getting to see them on the telly was a highlight! Whilst they were bad years, they were actually kinda good?

I used to get that feeling when i started following footy as well. The long terrible journey often made a win so much more satisfying. And i guess thats why last year was so great

too bad we're up shit creek this year..

That was a big club, you weren't there on your own.

I thought we should make the 8 easily, looks like we might make the bottom 8, easily.

I'd call what I've got with this farking club as a bad marriage.

One is doing what they are suppose to do.
                  One is emotionally attached.
                  One has pride.
                  One puts in an effort.
                  The other is the Roosters!

                  Chook.

Watching in the 80s as a kid, just like others have said, every win was a joy.

Those days of Hugh McGahan being the only one putting in while others around him bludged hardened me to losing and useless overpaid peahearted arseholes who didn't put in.

I remember watching McGahan take off his boots once when I was invited into the Sports Ground changing rooms back in 85 or 86 and I saw his socks were soaked with blood.

Brad Fittler may well have done more winning at this club but I still rank Hugh McGahan as a better captain.

*Insert obligatory comparison to our current captain who has me so disgusted with his lack of loyalty or anything approaching integrity and honor that I have banned his name from my lexicon forthwith*

Mate I also remember those days of Hugh McGahan putting in every week very well. I was just a kid but I remember wins were pretty rare back in those days and he was the heart and soul of the team. Our current joke of a captain should not even be mentioned in the same breath. God I hate Braith Anasta.

Is there any precedent for having the captain of a football club not actually being a member of the squad?

If it is at all possible could they bring in someone like Hugh to be at least a spiritual captain.

Because our current greedy, lazy, soulless captain (as I said, his name will never be written by me again) is not a patch on McGahan.

If Banasta was fired today I believe the celebrations around the Eastern Suburbs and beyond would rival those in New York city on the day Bin Laden was killed. Banasta is finished. As Madduke suggests - he has no soul, he is a disgrace and I believe he should never represent this club again.
