Burgess might find it harder going now that the NRL handicapping committee has stopped giving the Vermin its obscene penalty advantage. Who knows, he might even face suspension if he resumes his foul play tactics.
It's pretty obvious they are planning to shift Walker for a start. There is an article about that happening and all of a sudden he gets a "show cause" over the drug thing.
I think that would not even be half of what Burgess should be legitimately contracted for. So it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
I'm hoping that walker ends up at Manly. This would push Lyon to 5/8. But they are still one outside back too many with Stewart matai walker Hiku taufua and trobjevic. I can't see trobjevic waiting in regies much longer with clubs ready to swoop and offer $$. Potentially this could see us make a play for Stewart (just signed a new deal but not happy at Manly) or Hiku. They have just released gutherson but I imagine would be under cap pressure with dce absorbing most of forans wage and the signing of taupau, Myles, parcell, walker, lussick, korisau, brown.
The NRL have insisted a minimum of 700k must be applied to the cap for Burgess. In hindsight, weren't the Roosters lucky not having that sort of a standard applied to Ferguson?
Anyway..................
Souths have lost G Stewart @350K, I Luke @450 and B Lowe @300k, don't see a need for them to move anyone on. Considering they have bought nobody of any note apart from Burgess for 2016, those salaries would cover it easily.
Dean Ritchie reporting Isaac Luke & Glen Stewart moving on freed up $2million... really... $2million? One could entertain Luke perhaps having a weighted back end deal close to $1million but Stewart after just playing for 1 season. What about the crap NRL setting a realistic contract for Surgi? $700k a season is realistic? Fark me. The lols need to shift at least two players on + use whatever cap money they have from Luke & Stewart to sign Surgi (so equivalent of 4 players salaries), as well as pay the transfer fee. Early reports were the deal is worth $4million over 3 years and hours later reports are Surgi could end up with $1.5million a season including TPP.
With all these millions flying around, someone tell me how $700k a season is legitimate when you need to pay A$1.5million in transfers?

The 700k is a required minimum for the cap. Burgess has agreed to around 1.1 to 1.2 mil per season. The extra 400k or so can legally be done with 3PA's and is not included in the cap.
As for the transfer fee, not included in the cap and won't even be noticed as missing by Crowe and Packer.
If Walker goes, it has nothing to do with Burgess, it's a series of different ongoing issues with him.

Only Souths and the NRL really know their salary cap position.... It wasn't long ago they flat out signing Goodwin under the salary cap apparently... Reynolds, Johnston and Keary had large increases for 2016.
