      Jake Friend is 20!!!!!

Our team has struggled for form and rhythm this year and that is frustrating but you don't cut a 20 year old hooker who has shown more than enough in his short career to show that he should and will be persisted with.

Gees there are some short term thinkers on this forum.

We have a very good young squad who are poorly let down by senior players and the coaching staff.

We should be top 6, instead we are looking set for our second spoon in the last 40 years.
Sounds a lot worse when you say second spoon in 3 years !

Jake Friend will take over Cameron Smith's position as long term Queensland hooker in three or four years time.

I dont think he should be cut - not yet anyway - and that is only due to his age. I did mention that in my first post.

But he isnt first grade standard yet in my opinion.

The only thing that i don't like about Friend is his running game and his ability to engage the markers.. the 2? penalties he gave away were a little frustrating as well. Other than that, his passing game is usually pretty spot on and he tackles his heart out

He has shown glimpses of his attacking potential but not enough of it

Friend is out best option....what ever happened to Brunton? I thought he looked good out of dummy half.

I must be watching a differenyt side. Friend is everywhere in defence and adds that intangible called enthusiasm.
He has a very good pass from the ruck. He'll only get stronger

Fred you must watch a different game to me , friend along with Nate are our two best players week in week out, sure they give away penty of penalties but if you worked out the penalties v work they complete it they would be below average.

The ability that both friend and Nate have in slowing the play the ball is second to none in our side. Now let me get this straight you defended Pearce for two years because he was young and ineffectual but you want to kick another to the kerb who is completely out performing pearce at the same stage in his career.

Jake would be the last person to be dropped

                            I like Jake a lot.

                            Don't understand the criticism.

I think this assessment is spot on. Once he learns the finer points of the dummy half role such as engaging the markers and a little deftness in his passes near the tryline, I think Friend will be one of the best hookers going around.

His issues with discipline seem to come into play when he is frustrated. I am actually happy to see players frustrated - it shows their will to win. Control of his frustration should come with age.

Given the other aspects of his game, he is certainly first grade standard. His courage in particular is unquestionable.

Great little player... the amount of defence he is getting through is probably affecting his attacking game a little but he gives great service, good kicking game out of dummy half. Surely anyone who has watched us in the last two seasons realises how much better we are for having him on the field.
