  • What happened to the angles we ran in Round 1?

We looked so good!!! Now we're clueless inside the opposition's half.

Back to the bad old Chris Anderson days, midfield bombs, innocuously hoist it up and hope plays.

Next we'll go back to one marker or no marker defence.

Was thinking the same thing today Mobs, we were so flat footed.

It's amazing what Pearce did in the CityvCountry game with a structured attack around him.

      Well it is interesting.

The team has not changed much since last season, but the coaching staff have had some changes. Chery Mescia has left for what ever reason, Brandon costin rocked up, we have also changed , what i think we call, our high performance specialist.

Someone on here mentioned that FPN suggested that the change in training and tactics have confused the side.

Like i said, we have nearly the same side as last year, if we have changed tactics, why??? why did we not focus on the things they did well and built on that rather than change it because coaching staff changed.

I have probably posed more questions than before.

Lol round one seemed like an "eternity" ago

All I can think of is the off-field "changes" must be having a destabalising effect on the players. Either they don't listen to them, or they don't know what they are doing!

Yes we might have over-achieved last year, so what is the excuse this year for our lacklusture performances?

The personnel changes are all in the 'coaching group'. In hinesight these changes might of thought, "it seemed like a good idea at the time"? Can anyone shed some light on Mescia being shown the door? Was he too tough on the players?

Smithy has obviously gone back to the drawing board over the break regarding our attack.

The best thing about it is that Mini is no longer thinking he is a ball player (though he did pop out at the end with a forward pass to remind us of what we were missing).

The boys are down on confidence at the moment but it only takes a win or two to bring that back.

The tragedy is that we seem to have blown it already.

We have no structure in our attack. I have been saying that all year. No decoy runners, no players in Motion, no set plays

We can't rely on Carney crabbing across field looking for a hole when our outside backs stay flat footed

Watching our attack this year is very embarrassing and no-where near NRL standard

The coach needs to have a serious look at himself and his coaching staff

most of us have recognised this already. We are simply far too predictable in attack!! It worked last year but now teams have figured us out..
Smith is being quite stubborn in this regard and it needs to change asap.. there are virtually no combinations linking the 9 to the halves to the backs..

I don't think teams have worked us out, the way we played last year, we had alot more ball movement and alot more foward momentum, players would run onto the ball with purpose....this season........it ain't happening.

We have changed the attacking plan.....it ain't working. yesterdays game was a perfect example, Sharks defence looked awesome, of course it did, we did not pile any pressure on them. They had an easy day in defence.

Last year we had a lot of second phase play. This year its one out stuff for 5 and kick. If we dont drop it on the second tackle.

I knew the game was over when we gave them 5 penalties in a row all within their 20 meter zone letting them off the hook.

Yep, we haven't been worked out, our attack is nothing like last year where we chanced our arm with lateral BALL movement but bodies moving forward.
This year our attack is very pedestrian; some ineffectual dummy half running, a couple of pigs slogging it up the guts then a shit kick with a shit chase.
The most adventurous thing we do is a highly predictable inside ball or SKD running 30m across field to make 3m.

I think lot of this is due to our main link man being stifled with a hamstring injury, and to be honest, I saw some glimpses of Carney's 2010 form yesterday, but he won't be able to play his natural game until we get the pigs consistantly bending the line.
In this regard, we missed Kennedy terribly yesterday, and though it pains me to admit it, someone like Ryles too. In the interim, JWH, FPN and Mose need to stand up.
Despite the "sky is falling" mentality on here, I don't think we were too far off yesterday, though I'm sure plenty will line up to tell me I'm clueless

                      Depressingly true.

If you look back to season 2010, you'll notice that most of our trys involved Carney spiralling it out to SKD after a linebreak and quick ptb

none of those things are happening atm tbh and that's because our play the balls have been limited and we don't seem willing to spread it in our own half like before

I honestly think we have a bunch of lazy, gutless, and weak minded gits who are happy to stand around and do **** all. Time for a few players to take a leaf out of the Kennedy/Myles/Luck/Gallen/Bolton book of how to play football...
