I am very worried about the new interpretation to this rule.

The sad thing is, someone will miss a finals game over this because the NRL have backed themselves into a stupid situation.
The match review panel can't use common sense "they seldom do anyway" A penalty was fine and if you hit someone in the head then expect weeks on the sideline.

Why didn't they wait until the end f year to review this law? This is the worst decision the NRL has made in a long time.
Kane evens didn't get suspended because he didn't make contact with the head. That has been the rule all along, People on social media have been winging about him since last week.
They have changed the rule and now us fans will miss out watching the best players each week. Sometime its a defensive reaction to protect yourself and a penalty should be suffice.
If you charge in at full pelt and slam someone then yes maybe a suspension should happen but EVERY action should be looked at individually. NOT this stupid blanket ban.

The nrl don't even know what constitutes a shoulder charge anymore. How mase got two weeks for that is absolutely ridiculous. When some is 120kg running full steam at you off a kick off it is very difficult to make a one on one tackle. If you're an 85kg hooker or half its virtually impossible without getting hurt.

Blanket rules are only introduced when someone doesn't understand a situation and needs a black and white thought process to make easy decisions. I thought the point of having a three man match review panel was to be able to ****ing contextualise some of these decisions.

I'm more and more concerned about the advantage the attacking player has over defensive sides now. My biggest gripe at the moment is variations in when a referee will call held of a ball runner. Calling held before the defensive side can assert their dominance over the attacking player just leads to ruck infringement penalties or ultra fast play the balls. It's ridiculous. I swear the refs always call held half a second earlier in our games then for other teams and this is partly why we're penalised so much. Some refs give some players an age to make a tackle. Others call held when the runner is still fighting in the tackle because they want to reduce the risk of a third man lifting tackle. It's just a farce atm.

Think mason said this week, he is ashamed to call himself a league player anymore, game was going safe/soft, now it has lost the plot completely.

When are the NRL going to ban the back slam tackle if this is the case? This type of tackle can cause a player to suffer a whiplash injury as well. Players are taught to tackle with the first contact being the shoulder. Seems like we have to wait until David Smith leaves the NRL for sanity to prevail.

This will allow the refs to penalize indiscriminately, and the judiciary to suspend whomever they want. The Keary citing was an absolute joke.
