You don't leave your opposition winger with a clear run to the line on two occasions, it was just poor reading by Elliott, his job was to mark up on his opponent, if they mess it up inside him, that's there fault, not his, but hopefully SKD be back next week.

That's a very naive view on how defence works.

        This.
Elliot made a bad read from the scrum, but a couple of the other tries I thought were poor reads from Fergo. He misread, came in and Elliot then had to follow him in to try and cut off the centre, he couldn't and the winger had clean air to the try line. Fergo is strong hitting in defence, but tonight came up with some poor reads.

Also I don't get why Elliot was penalised for a double movement ...it was the last tackle.
How many times do you see refs order handovers on the last tackle when players try and keep the ball alive on the last and pass the ball from the ground, or somehow continue on after the tackle is complete ?

Yeh its an interesting one, I would've thought the handover preceeded the double movement.

The first defensive rule as a winger is to mark your opposite flanker always was and still is.There are exceptions to this but wherever possible stay on your opposing flanker.Burnt rooster is right ill have to have another look at it but if i recall correctly we were short on that side and we didn't slide very well .

He simply had to follow his centre who jammed in. The centre, by the way, followed his halfback. Either great coaching by Dessie who spotted a tendency for our defenders to jam in and devised a play to exploit it or great vision by the Dogs on the field. Either way, glad to learn that lesson now and not on Grand Final day!

It's the old Chris Walker & Rysn Cross conundrum. Walker always got blamed but I levelled it at Cross mostly. Fergo needs to wear the majority of the blame here.

Having said that, I want SKD!

We can't be praising Elliot one week and then saying he isn't good enough the next. He's obviously our only go to guy when we need a replacement winger so we need to give him a break. He did his best considering that in both of those tries out wide he was practically left by himself with so much ground to cover.
