  • Daniel Tupou & Brendan Elliot re-sign with Roosters

The Sydney Roosters are pleased to announce that Daniel Tupou and Brendan Elliot have signed extensions for a further two years, keeping them at the club until the end of 2017.

24 year-old Tupou expressed his delight at extending his tenure with the Foundation Club.

“I’m so happy that I’ll continue to be part of the team here at the Roosters,” said Tupou.

“The Club means so much to me and I’m looking forward to continuing to work hard with Robbo and my teammates to keep improving and do my job for the side,” he added.

Since making his NRL debut with the Sydney Roosters in 2012, the towering winger has scored 41 tries in 66 appearances to date. He also represented Tonga at the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, has played four games for New South Wales (2014-15) and represented Australia in the Four Nations and PM’s XIII (2014).

21 year-old Elliot, who joined the Roosters as a 17 year-old, was named in the NYC Team of the Year and was a member of Queensland’s Under 20s side in 2014. The outside utility back has scored four tries in his five NRL appearances to date.

“I’m really excited to know that I’ll continue to be a part of the Roosters family for a further two seasons,” said Elliot.

“I still have lots of room to improve and I just want to keep learning from Robbo and the team and hopefully secure my opportunity to play some good football for the Club,” he added.

“In their own right, Daniel and Brendan are terrific contributors to the Roosters both on and off the field,” said Sydney Roosters Chief Operating Officer Football, Brian Canavan.

“Their best football is still ahead of them, and its great news for the Roosters to have secured their services for a further two years,” he added.

I don't think putting a guy who has very limited first grade experience into one of the most important positions on the field, one he doesn't play, is a very good idea. I have seen no evidence of play making skills so far so think he should stay put in the outside backs, not moving him to such an important position both offensively and defensively.

Only scored one against the Sharks.

Really happy with these signings though.

I'm glad they re-sign Jack Elsegood 2.0 and Tupou, both showed why they deserve it on the weekend.
    SUPER DRAGON!

        What's with 2017?

That's Tupu, Elliott, SST, JWH, Guerra, Kenny-Dowall & Napa all signing 2 year contract extensions until 2017 this year.

God I hope the club know what they're doing.

The only current first grader we have signed beyond 2017 at the moment is Jake Friend.

The next 24 months are HUGE in the shaping of our clubs future.

New broadcasting contract. I'm not sure if the managers or the clubs are limiting the contracts to 2017 but plenty of players are doing it.

Interesting move. This tells me that 2016's fullback will definitely come from the existing squad. My money is on Fergo

If Tupou could become more assertive/agressive i'd like to see him given a crack to be honest

Congrats to Toops and "Billy" .

Now Toops can play with renewed confidence knowing his playing future is secured and if Billy can keep up showing us more finishing moves like he has displayed so far it should be an entertaining period

You can include this year given the ramifications of RTS leaving.

But it'd be the same for most clubs.

Realistically, if it came down to it and a they are in form, JWH, napa and SST are the ones that get offered contracts first, SKD ( who knows what will happen) guerra, toops and elliot are all replaceable, and in 3years, who knows which other junior's will emerge or who we pick up along the way.

I like short contracts mostly for the injury and form factor, i would like to see an endless potential player like SST get a longer deal though.

Most player agents won't sign long deals with young players, so they are in the market for better deals
