  • Fox sports: Moa and Nene to Penrith

'We are hearing Roosters prop Sam Moa and winger Nene Macdonald could end up at the Panthers next season.

While Moa is under contract until the end of 2016 but rumour has it the club will be willing to release the 28-year-old kiwi to take up a long term deal at the foot of the mountains.'

Moa would be a significant loss but I think we have a bunch of long-term front rowers coming through at the moment.

Is our plan to replace everybody we lose with a promising youngster though? Worries me a little...

Either we have big plans for recruitment next season or there is something wrong within the club at the moment.

Moa would be the cost of Napa.

          Our team is crumbling.

RTS, Maloney, Moa... such horrific cap management when you match us against the likes of Souffs, Broncos, Dogs and Cowboys.

A couple of very average years are ahead.

Interesting ... In Moa's latest interview on the Rooster's website, he dismissed rumours linking him to the Titans and declared that he loved the Roosters and wanted to finish his career here!
These rumours are similar to the ones that linked JWH prior to his re-signing with us.
Sounds to me that there are forces out there trying to destabise our Club ...

No, it sounds like the Roosters don't want him to stay. Either they are targeting a big name or are already in trouble with back ended contracts for next year. Im disappointed to lose Moa but Nene McDonald is an absolute myth.

With the outside backs that we will have next year in Mitchell and Burgess, it's no surprise to lose Nene. Would be disappointed to lose Moa. He doesn't seem to make many meters over the course of a game but he has a presence about him and is inspirational in his carries.

I can cop McDonald going, not quite first grade standard in my opinion, Moa while a loss, but if substituted by Ben Teo, I will be happy.

I'm sure the club has plans. I don't think Politis will stand for a couple of poor years. He must have something up his sleeve.

How could we possibly move forward without Nene Ronald McDonald? lol

Good deal for Moa. He has established himself and now he can chase big bucks for his last few peak years in the NRL. If we can't offer him the right money he would be wise to get what he can.

Guaranteed Nene McDonald will go to another club and be one of those players that everyone regrets letting go. But this won't be because he's improved all that much as a player. It'll be because a lot of the time the only occasions fans see former Roosters players is in match highlights where they're scoring or setting up tries. The sole fact he's starting in first grade would push the perception that he's some sort of gun all of a sudden when in reality the standard of our roster is just far superior to most teams. The grass is always greener...

Moa on the other hand I would be genuinely disappointed about. I think his second half to this season will be outstanding. He's starting to regain his defensive mongrel finally and his running against the Storm was just unbelievable. But we really can't keep them all. In reality Napa will be without doubt a starting-quality prop next season if he isn't already. And Evans will have another season under his belt. If Meehan comes back I'd say he'll be close to a bench spot. Matagi could well turn into the new cheaper Moa. Then guys like Vincent Leuluai and Shaq Mitchell will be the young fellas coming through. I think we'll still have a quality rotation.

Napa has gone past him anyway.

I highly doubt that our club would have poorly managed the salary cap - not once since Unlce Nick has been around has the club done a Manly and put so much pressure on ourselves through the salary cap. I think the fact that JWH, Guerra etc. only signing 2 year deals indicates their understanding of cap management.

Whilst it's sad to being losing RTS and potentially Maloney, Tupou and Moa, we as fans should look at the positive side. No good thing lasts forever. The bulk of our squad over the past few seasons has been the same -they have won a premiership- i.e. they reached the pinnacle they could as a squad. The last thing the club needs is to have a group of players that become too comfortable and familiar with each other, and as such performances start to drop off.

Take a look at the Bulldogs - the bulk of their squad has been playing together for the last 4-5 years. Have they got any better? Probably not. They could very well win a premiership soon enough, as they haven't won one. But our squad has won the competition, which means our situation is quite different to theres. Maybe it's time for fresh blood to come into the group. The club will more than likely continue to keep the heart and soul of the team - Friend, JWH, Pearce, SKD etc. and then work around them with some fresh rejuvenation. This may be the key to success.
