My thanks goes out to the guys who set this site up but, it is a very boring forum site. I used to spend hours on the wall or the old chookpen but here their is very little.we win & nobody wants to visit or post. look at all the outher teams sites & they are posting all the time. Plllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll llllllllllllease someone with a bit of computer IT knowledge help us out & bring back all the old gang on something new.
I think, aside from resolving the nagging technical issues, a bit of a low-cost marketing effort wouldn't go astray. Hand out www.thechookpen.com 'business cards' in the chookpen. Hand them out at the gates. Make a banner perhaps? A high volume of numbers + a techically sound site provide a better value proposition to paying advertisers

I think a lot of them grew up. They had families and, even if they didn't move away from the club, they moved off the forums. I think the golden era we experienced in the early 2000's won't come back but there are still some nuggets of gold from time to time in here.
Should Chris consider selling or giving the site away to a member who is willing to maintain it? It can't cost too much to run a forum I would imagine or am I wrong?

I have run a semi-successful forum in the past. Cost is minimal - just the cost of a reliable host, and cost for forum software (although there are open source options such as PhpBB which are free). The biggest challenges are getting numbers to the forum (especially when starting out) and also nagging technical difficulties. As a previous poster noted, it may be worth looking for a more secure option than vBulletin. Resolving usability issues can be time consuming, but without resolving them your site is doomed.
If I was running this site, I would run a usability poll - what is it that users want in order to make the site run better, look better, improve user experience. I would then select the top 10 and implement them.
The UX and bugs aren't the problem. The real issue is that the forum is just filled with boring posts, pointless threads and trolls. That pushes people away and then the content gets even worse. It's a vicious circle.

I agree and it's a shame because a lot of energy and expense went into creating this new site and it looks really smart. For me personally, I feel it's something I've outgrown so this will be my last visit. People's lives change for many reasons, our priorities change and so do our habits. It was fun there for a while.

this site is borrrrrrrrrrrring their is more talk on watching grass grows then on this site.
IMO it's a good community because there's quality talk rather than quantity.
If you want LOTS of talk then use reddit and go to /r/nrl. You'll get a bunch of kids talking absolute $hyte who have no idea.
To top it off, there's a no sledging policy. You'll get warned/suspended if you say 'bloody Souffs!!!' because that's derogatory. Instead they have 'sledging' threads where you have to use caps and still can't make comments that I'd call 'sledging.'
This site has been around for a while, so has some dedicated posters who know their stuff. My only fear is that it's run by 1 guy and the community's slowly dropping off due to neglect.
I'd be keen to purchase the site and change a few things up in line with community demands. However, I don't think Chris wants to sell? Previously I've offered to play a technical role and take some of the load of security/development off. However, I'm pretty sure my help isn't wanted.

I think it represents the fan base numbers, teams like parra, dogs, souths and dragons always have chatter going on league unlimited, the roosters can go for a couple days without a post.

Correct. Furthermore, judging by the posts and replies from fans of ALL the above teams (incl Saints) they're all nutters. They talk shite and heavily criticise their teams.
