  • Move H&E to resign MasterSheck

Looking at the dynamics of our team this season and how/when we score our points, if I was Uncle Nick i'd move heaven and earth to get RTS to backflip and resign before Round 13.

Bold move but I'd release Maloney and Toops and throw all that money into Sheck.

Reason? In majority of our games, it's largely been Sheck and not our halves who have come to the rescue in attack. Maloney and Pearce are slowly becoming ineffective and one should really be on his way out. I'd blood someone else in the halves next year and start building generation next.

    Thoughts?

He is a once in a decade player. It was evident from the start of his career.

This club re signed duds like SKD and hangs onto one dimensional dopes like Pearce yet lets this gem of a player go.

Only Friend is more valuable than RTS to this squad.

This is Thurston all over again.

Big call to make on these two. There is no way they are ineffective. You need more than a great fullback to win games of football.

I don't disagree with your idea. If it meant keeping RTS then yes I'd release Toups and Maloney. But to refer to them, in particular Pearce, as ineffective is taking it a bit too far

Oh man fark after last night we NEEEEEEED RTS!!!! Not only did he make good metres, he threw an awesome 20m pass to Toops as well.

I know he's already gone, but jeez I'll miss him!

Deserves a standing ovation at the conclusion of this season. IMO all we can do is be nice to him, show respect and hope that the Warriors flop so that he considers returning in a few years time.

I agree about RTS but wouldn't go that far and start calling guys like Pearce and SKD duds.

The reality IMO was that we'd have to lose an equally valuable player or 2 solid players in order to add 400-500k onto RTS' contract. This would also make RTS our most valuable player.

        Think of it this way:
        - Maloney goes... Hastings isn't ready.
        - SKD goes... we lose a quality 1 club player who will be worth $200k less out of our salary soon (fixing our cap problems partly and freeing up more for other backs)
        - Friend goes... we're effed!
        - Toops goes... MacDonald isn't as good.
        - Jennings goes... he's had a slow season but I wouldn't personally kick him out the door.

There's many other players. IMO they basically figured that as good ad RTS is, $850k-$900k is the price of 3 or 4 decent players. If that $$$ cost us SKD and Maloney (leaving us with Hastings, Fergo and Nene for example...) then it wouldn't be money well spent in my view.

        We lose RTS and keep:
Fergo (Mitchell in a few years maybe)
        Toops
        Jennings
        SKD
        Burgess/Omar/Nene
        Maloney
        Pearce

We'll still have a world class backline... and who knows? Fergo defends better (and leaps higher) than RTS remember! IMO $800k on one dude puts too much pressure on your salary cap. I know Souffs won with more money on Inglis, but it's a BIG gamble signing such big contracts IMO.

        ---

        Edit...

Other thought, given SBW played for $550k a season, he's established a home for his family in Sydney, he has kids (so might want to settle down) and his dad is a mad Roosters fan... if signing RTS for $800k meant we couldn't afford SBW (or say... Folau as a FB replacement... theoretically) then I'd be mad!

I can only think that he has made it clear he is not doing any back flips and definitely going home. Surely if it were not the case Uncle Nick would have pulled out all stops and there would have been constant media speculation. As there has been none and we have been re signing SKD, Matagi and probably Maloney, it's obvious he is 100% gone.

Of course the club should have however they should have had more faith in him and made him an offer he could not refuse last season when he would have commanded much less on the market. They wanted to wait and see and opened the door for the Warriors as a result. POS then threw the baby out with the bathwater with his public dummy spit once RTS signed with the Warriors and it was pretty clear then the club were not going to try and compete with the Warriors. He hoped he could get RTS on the cheap and it backfired. He is a potential top 3 player in the comp and alongside Friend our most influential yet he was offered money that would have him behind a few others in the team like Pearce who needs other players to be on fire before really making a contribution. RTS doesn't rely on others to stand out.

Given that a player like SKD has been resigned who probably should have been let go to keep RTS, it is safe to say it is not going to happen. I would let Maloney, Moa and Toops go to cover him but it is obviously not going to happen.

as much as it hurts unfortunately the ship has sailed no amount of cash is changing his mind now.

found it interesting last night that Latrell Mitchell was in the huddle listening to the halftime speech from Robbo, obviously the club has started the long term integration of his rise into the first grade squad.

I found that very interesting, my son mentioned it to me after I got back from a drink break. They'll be fast tracking Latrell into first grade sooner rather than later it seems.

unless we get a horrible run of injuries the only game he may play first grade this year would be against the Warriors when we are without our origin players, but no doubt they have started to get him to hang around the first grade squad with an eye to the future.

Perhaps a better word to use is predicable. They club needs to start planning for the future. We may lose two future internationals in RTS and Hastings all for Maloney?? He is really not worth that gamble. Just my opinion John.

                      Can't keep them all.

Love the "duds like SKD" call about our 3rd highest ever try scorer and easily one of our top 3 current players on form. LOL. So many on here with the SKD hate - fortunately nobody who matters in the club ever listens.

What both impresses me and hurts the most is how well Sheck is playing. He couldnhave easily signed for 800k and clocked off for this season and just cruised by.

But he truly has been our shining light and one of the best performers in the comp so far. That is pure prossesionalism and maturity from a young man.

And some idiots wanted to drop him to Wyong after he signed.

Hope someone teaches him to tackle Fletch. I know he is a kid and therefore has time to mature, but if they are thinking of fast tracking him then that is all irrelevant. He needs to learn to defend pretty quick if he is fullback next yr.

Can anyone tell me if Omar has been playing for Wyong, or is it from next yr?

I've been saying it for years farian and no one has let me forget it so don't expect too much support. It's nothing against Pearce and Maloney both do their job well but neither are creative players. Pearce is an organiser and Maloney a support player. SBW glossed over these shortcomings in 2013 and now RTS is glossing over it in 2015. They just don't have the vision to create something out of nothing.

Every team needs the right balance between structure and flair and you're right without RTS it becomes a concern. I've already said I'd bite the bullet and let Maloney go to give Hastings a go, I think the kid has vision and is a natural footballer.

Pearce and Carney was always the dream combination regardless of who was around them, carney was the creator and Pearce the organiser. With Pearce and Maloney a lot depends on the team around them.
