  • The Improvement of Dylan Napa

I figured we were due a football thread.

This kid is fast becoming a man.

I felt people were expecting far too much from him too early, especially with regards to his 'go forward' - an area where young props tend to take a while to mature. But now not only is he one of the premier defenders in the competition, his hit-ups are also a lot more effective.

With Moa and JWH both having and continuing to be out for a few rounds he's been given a great opportunity to improve and take a leadership role. Which can only hold us in good stead heading into the business end of the season.

So glad we re-signed him! Just wait until Evans becomes a more polished product too, especially defensively. We'll have a fearsome set of middle third forward in tandem with SST and Liu.

Agree entirely Tommy. He also seems to have tidied up his shoulder charge tendencies and is now smashing blokes legitimately. This shows he is learning, a smart trait. That said he'll probably go out this weekend and shoulder charge some poor bloke into the middle of next week, lol.

I love that when he hits, he sticks. I haven't seen any stats but he makes plenty of tackles and I see very few missed tackles from him.

I was worried the ludicrous shoulder charge ban would ruin him as a footballer.

But someone is giving him great counsel and his effort against the Storm was all about control...very impressive.

He is tough as nails and is coming along nicely.

Will he play SOO this year?

If they have an injury, very possible.

In the off season I called that he'd play origin. Most people were hating on him and laughed at that suggestion. If napa had a touch more leg speed and ran better angles he would be an elite prop.

His angles will continue to improve.

His speed well not so much.

Sometimes hard men think that it's more effective and more masculine to try and run over the top of people. I hope he gets out of that mindset. Some footwork at the line so that he falls on his knees and elbows.

DYLAN is leading the teams tackle count stat with 231 followed by boyd 220 and maubs 208
rts in all run meters has 1710, skd 912, boyd 808, and Dylan 764. so Dylan is second in the forwards, and sio third with 750
hit ups are Boyd 79, sio 69 and Dylan is 63
remembering that Dylan and Sio are generally bench players compared to Boyd who is generally a 80min player.
