You seriously think we shouldn't have signed Maloney? We don't win a comp in 2013 if we don't sign him. It's that simple. He was the best 5/8 in the comp by a mile that year. 2014 was average; as it was for the majority of the team. And so far in 2015 he's been very good, but for yesterday.

Without him we'd be a fringe top 6 team because there's not even close to a decent replacement around for the 5/8 spot at the club right now. So i'll cut him some slack after one bad game.

I'll cut him some slack too, in fact I already did. But your ignorant if you think yesterday's game was just an off day rather than a game that just didn't suit his style and exposed his weaknesses.

I actually thought his 2014 season was better than average too fwiw. I thought he was one of the few players who didn't drop off from the 2013 season.

People say I'm the stubborn one but I'm the one who conceded he's been a good signing, that he surprised me in 2013 and consistently give him credit where it's due. I haven't seen anyone despite the overwhelming support of evidence come out and admit to being wrong about him being a support player rather than the creative player so many labelled him prior to his signing. Hell Trent Robinson came out last year and said he's a support player but still people want to debate it. What would Robbo know...

I don't think there's any doubt that he's a support player rather than a creative player. Granted he can put on a great long ball to put his centre or winger in space; he also has a high football IQ (something i feel awkward saying after that short kick with the overlap on yesterday - the worst play in living memory) but weight of evidence suggests that he makes a lot of good decisions, e.g. going blindside to put Toops over in the knock out semi vs the Cowboys last year.

But yes, he is primarily a support player. And the question was always going to be: how will he go without the genius of SBW to take some of the attacking pressure off of his shoulders? But with RTS stepping up big time and the devastating presence of Fergo (not now obviously) I believe he would have continued to play his role perfectly. He's just a dangerous cog in a well oiled and varied attacking machine; unlike the Cowboys for example who rely far too heavily on one player.

At our best we can beat the opposition through magic from our 1, 6, 7, 9 and centres; all of course on the back of the platform the forwards lay. And Jimmy fits that set up perfectly. I certainly wouldn't have him running a team by any means. But in the system Robbo has i think he suits the team's style really well.

FWIW, i enjoy the debate and am glad we can have a difference of opinion without resorting to abuse. Asshole

James Maloney’s manager, Wayne Beavis, says contract negotiations with the representative five-eighth’s club, Sydney Roosters, have started off “positively”, with the club having made a “competitive” offer.

While that is no guarantee they will reach an agreement at this stage, it will still come as some much-needed positive news for Roosters fans, who this week saw the club lose fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck to the Warriors for next season.

Maloney is preparing for a big game against Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium this Friday night and Beavis tells RLW he didn’t want to distract him with the full details of the talks until after the match, when the pair will decide what to do next.

Beavis, who met with Roosters management this week, previously told RLW that Maloney would only seriously consider other offers if the Roosters weren’t at least in the ball-park with their initial offer.

“I didn’t want to load him up this week with the big game against the Broncos, especially after the Roosters got beaten last weekend, so I’ll see him over the weekend after he gets back to Sydney,” Beavis says.

“I’ve got to talk to Jimmy and then we’ll go back to them.

“If their first offer doesn’t tick all the boxes with him, we’ll talk about what he wants to do and whether we look at other options or whatever.

“It’s a competitive offer, so negotiations have started off positively.

“What he tells me will decide whether we want to talk more with the Roosters before he’s prepared to commit to anything.”
