He did what you normally do when you charge down a kick. The fact that he missed and it eventuated into an injury, to me it's not a penalty much like any other tackle that may cause any injury. Had that happened to one of ours, I think the referee would have judged that as accidental contact without any penalty awarded.
Let's put things into context - what would have been the result had it been one of our players taking that shot at field goal?
99.9% of the time, the ref would have ruled play on.
And there my fellow Chookpenners, you have the answer to how much influence the NRL and referees have in determining the result of games ...

And for the record, that penalty was very far from clear cut - despite the many here saying it was. It was within the refs' discretion to rule Graham was attempting a charge down at the ball and was not playing at Reynolds, and that contact was accidental in playing at the ball and not the kicker.
So they had the power to exercise discretion and they used that power to get the wabbits over the line. Then they exercised their discretion to not give dogs a chance to equalise with a penalty kick from the restart for what actually was a 100% penalty. Not like we aren't used to it.
I think the refs and the NRL made a statement tonight and I hear them loud and clear: We will manage games and results as we see fit, in broad daylight, and there ain't a damn thing any of you can do about it.
The roosters/sharks game is next. It's the live game on nine - expect an upset to please the viewers.
Asked about the Graham tackle, where the English international took out the left leg of Reynolds while attempting to charge down a field-goal attempt, Maguire said: I cant make comment around the actual incident, thats in the games hands.
But Ive lost my halfback. Weve had a look at his lateral ligament and, unfortunately, its not attached any more.
Adam has got to go get some scans but, yeah, worst case scenario.

If we are talking about leg ups, the Dogs got a soft penalty right in front of the post with 7 minutes on the clock when they were leading 16-14 and didn't take the kick, dumb dumb dumb. The dogs were the better team but they are a dumb team and will not win the title this year because they have dumb play makers and Neanderthal forwards.
And yes, last week they were refereed fairly and the result was a loss.
They get more penalties than any other side and they almost always get them in crucial positions and/or at crucial times.
It's nice to be a hindsight genius but teams usually don't take those shots at goal when they are only up by two. I didn't bat an eyelid at the time.
Though I agree the dogs are hopeless. Worst halves in the comp don't wik premierships.Last edited by Johnny Tobin; 04-04-2015, 10:13 AM.

How hopeless is the bulldogs' attack? The Morris twins are great value, but apart from that they have nothing. The number of times they were camped in Souffs quarter and never looked like having any plays to make.
And yet they were still too good for Souffs (ignoring the artificial result).
We may just beat all the other teams and the refs again this year like in 2013.

The surprising game, in my opinion, was the game against the Roosters where I thought although the refereeing was at its std low level, was reasonably fair. The Internet is a place for posting silly things

That is not the case. Ceteris paribus, if Graham had tackled him around the chest there is no penalty.

a friend of mine who is an intelligent Dapto supporter, SMSed me to correctly state that the crowd behaviour has refocussed attention away from the referees' performance. It's played into the NRL's hands of "do nothing - business as usual"Written and published on behalf of the Liberal Party, Queensland

I blame the dogs for not putting them to the sword after many opportunities.
Kasiano dropping the pill with that loose carry & with the ensuing 8 pointer blah blah
I laugh at both teams, no blame on the refs for that 10 min farce
Dogs are stuffed & the judiciary will carve them up
Souths are stuffed, composure is out the window, they will be shown no respect by every team they play from now on & cant wait for the carnage to begin starting with the cowboys next week.
the legup from the refs has come at a price, 2 top 4 propects are in tatters.

View from a Souths fan with teeth.
Souths were very lucky to win. The field goal penalty was the correct decision. Morris should have received a penalty after Millard's push in the back at the kickoff , however after copping a verbal barrage I suspect the refs didn't want to give the dogs any favours.
The Inglis penalty was a dropped ball, but don't recall any points coming from it.
Clearly the better side lost, but to obsess about the last 2 minutes hides the fact the dogs should have closed the game out earlier.
