  • can we afford james tamou

JAMES Tamou’s manager will fly to Townsville for talks with the Cowboys prop as speculation intensifies the Test enforcer wants a release to revive his career in Sydney. The NSW Origin bookend has been linked with a return to the Sydney Roosters, who graded Tamou in their under-20s in 2008 before his move to Townsville the following year to chase his NRL dream.
Now 26, Tamou has had a chequered past 18 months in Townsville. The towering bookend was charged with drink-driving in 2013, costing him his NSW jumper, and spent most of last season battling a neck problem which ultimately required surgery.

Although most props get better as they mature, we don't need him. Unless he comes super cheap, which is very unlikely, we have enough on our books already.

I don't think we need him. He will also be asking an amount we can't afford. Especially when JWH re-signs and Moa and Napa get topped up.

The way it works with the cowboys is that we send the cowboys our unwanted players, it doesn't work the other way around.

Hasn't had a good game in 2 years at least

Tamou is the NRL version of Shane Watson - overpriced, over rated and hasn't had a decent game in a long time. Besides our forwards stocks are bloody good already. Why lose one or more of our young guns for this guy?

I doubt it Turk. I think one of the rubbish clubs will throw some big money his way.
Anyway I'd rather we keep the current props we have. Potentially both Evans and Napa could be better and achieve more than Tamou.

Right there is the reason I wouldn't want him here. If I want Superman I get Christopher Reeve in 1978 not Christopher Reeve about to borrow his mate's horse.

Didn't suggest Taumo would be at Easts, just that he would be coming cheap..

I'd sign him for sure. Very talented, down on form. The best is in him yet.

Would be a handy addition but considering our current stock of props I would think it would be a waste. Dont think I've covered all the props in our Top 25 but already:

                            JWH
                            Moa
                            Napa
                            Evans
                            Liu

That's 5 out of the 25 players. Out of them, only Napa is a chance for Origin - so we wont be short then either.

I think it was Chris Anderson who said that "You need 8 good props for a first grade side. 2 on the field, 2 on the bench, 2 out injured and 2 suspended.
