  • Widdop & Buhrer

Gareth Widdop and Jamie Buhrer are both off contract, both would be amazing replacements for players like Mini and Ryles who might not be here next year!

I dont know about Widdop great young player but i dont think he fit the roosters game type we need a running fullback not a ball playing one. We all ready had 3 ball player in our team unless anasta was gone dont think he would help as much as a Dugan type player

Can't afford widdop. We get a 200K long serving player cap exemption for mini.

maubs = buhrer. maybe widdop but i feel as if locke and tomane would be too cheaper options who would suit our style of play much better. in terms of signings for the forwards, if we secure tomane and locke it would force at least maubs to play exclusively in the backrow and even BJ considering we have linnett, carney, moga and blair all pushing for a place as well down the track. this means that backrow we dont really need to sign any new players for. i think we should let myles go and replace him with a top draw prop forward. the smartest replacement for ryles would be justin poore from parra imo. a rep player who has just lost his spark and passion at parra. Is currently being shopped around for a lot less than what he is arguably worth/on at parra which means i reckon we could squeeze him in in place of ryles and id back smith to get him back to his best.

id like to see us sign locke, tomane, mitchell (young hooker from parra to replace riddell and watts as friends understudy), poore. ryles, graham, watts, riddell to make way. FPN, Myles, Anasta, Mini the next lot to leave.

Like the sounds of that Tomane is a good young player that hasnt been given much of a chance at the titans .

Mitchell would also be good he would be quiet handy player during origin time can play in the halves also.

And i think Myles will be gone at the end of this year.

Wouldn't be against it although I hesitate about signing forwards with how much talent and depth we have coming through. Widdop would be fantastic as Mini's replacement. In my opinion, the priorities are:
            1. Finding a replacement for Mini
            2. Unearthing a Tolman/Fensom/Luck like forward
            3. Adding pace to the backline
            4. Finding a genuine bench utility

            1. We need to give Naughton or another youngster the rest of the season at fullback ASAP and move Mini to the wing to finish his career there. I don't want to go out and waste ridiculous amounts of cash on someone we don't need. If it is shown they can't handle fullback, I'd be chasing hard after either Widdop this year, or Hoffman next year. Quality players. I'd be extremely happy if Dugan came, but he would be pricey and there are cheaper options.

            2. Tasi fits that mould. So does Goodwin. But they are a few years away from regular first grade football yet. I love James Graham and want him here, but that's a pipe-dream at best, and a lot of people don't think he should join. I went through a few games and watched Merrin play after a recommendation by another forumite, and he is quality. Will play Origin. Would not be against him signing for us at all. Have to be quick though.

            3. This is where I think we may need to end up buying. Graham is Daniel Fitzhenry at best, Leilua is not a winger and Carney looks to have lost his explosive acceleration that made him so good. Perrett is solid but is no speedster. There is some talent in the lower grades, but they are still two or three years away from what I have seen. There are two guys off contract this year who look really interesting to me:
William Hopoate - only made 8 or 10 appearances but he is a star. A deadset star. Can't wait until he fills out and starts getting aggressive with the ball. He is big, strong and quick. Will play rep football.
David Milne - very underrated player. Great kick returns, can break tackles and really good support play. Should be pretty cheap and is sitting behind Dugan, Vidot, Croker and co.

            4. I'm thinking we can develop Kheirallah into that player. He's got ball playing skills and he is lightning. If we can sort out his defence, then I think he might be a good option in coming years.

I do. I think he will get the tap on the shoulder or chuck it in. It looks like this year is one year too long. You don't want to go for two years too long.

Well if the rumour is true about Locke, then will hope Mini does leave (no offence to mini )

Much like Fitzy, I think Mini has been here one season too long.

I'm all for loyalty (the fact that Fitzy was a Steeler then a dragon doesn't matter, he bled red, white and blue) but football practicality forces a team to move on.

Mini isn't like Luke Patten who was still producing results last year when he left.

He was completely screwed by his back troubles. It's sad but that's football.

You can carry weak links in cricket teams (Australia did it for years) but you can't in football.

Does anyone remember a guy named Britt Fench who looked good within the Melbourne system too..

Widdop is not the answer for us....

To be honest i think Minichiello would be best served on the wing rather then playing the new generation style Full-Back trying to get involved in attacking sets, he cant ball play. He would still be a good finisher on the Wing and safe in my opinion defusing bombs.

Widdop is a class player he can run and and he can ball play, Iwould love to see him playing for us, Dugan is maybe better than Widdop but is slightly built for a kamikazi, there is no tomorrow style of player, I fear he would be spending more time off the field than on it.
