Dolphin, things happen for a reason, what the reason is, i do not know.

        BUT

While James has scored 2 tries in 2 games, he will not get too many more games in first grade this season apart from the Rep period.

Alright here's the situation, James received an offer which would see him go into the top 25 at the Cowboys, if we were to match this offer who would you have let go from our top 25 out of the forwards who were off contract? Shackleton, Sa or Fitzgibbon.... lets face it they would've let Shack go, not looking so dumb now?

If only the recruitment staff had hindsight as a tool at their disposal. There are many players that move on to another club that go great guns. There are many more though that fail. It is just the way it is.

actually he's scored 3 times in 2 games

Iirc Beetson was very disappointed that we let him go... i never watched him before and heard nothing about him apart from Beetson's.. so i can't really comment

Beetson has a huge bug to bear with Easts, he loves his cheap shots at every oppotunity, watch that Barefoot Rugby League show on NITV, Beetson has a smart remark at every chance, in fact that whole panel take cheap shots.

I love Artie, but bias takes away from any credability in his comments.

Yes, Tamou should have been one of the 1st players retained.

Tamou showed fairly consistent form in the U20s - hindsight wasn't needed here, patience was.

OK, so lets name the players that are currently playing in the U20's that are going to be great players. Let's see how accurate people can be and how easy it is to spot a top notch player at an early age.

I liked Gus' response on Sunday when Rabbits asked how did Winterstein slip through the Roosters net. His response " Dont worry there are alot of people wondering the same thing". Tone suggested Gus isnt a fan of our recruitment either

I know what point youre trying to make mate, and I agree to a point.

But IMO its more the strange thing that players/coaches who we develop seem to then become very good players/coaches at other clubs. Thats what frustrates many.

I understand its not easy to spot talent and even harder to keep talent with the cap and individuals wanting to return to families often. But its perplexing when players dont perform to their ability here and go elsewhere and more than fulfill their potential. Its the ammount recently more than anything probably.

Getting kanked by Soward and Winterstein this season didnt help even the most loyal fans to contain their frustration. And seeing Cleary and Carty doing so well the past few seasons while weve had the fiasco of Waynkerr/dOpes stuff was demoralising.

Its our lot IMO unfortunatley. I find beer helps to numb the pain.

Seems though that those that have the ability to "spot" a great player only happens once that player moves to another club and goes great guns. Then people ask, "why did we let him go?"

So lets have those experts look through the lower grades, decide on who those players that are going to go on and be the next big thing and make a call.

My point is also that not all players that go to other clubs perform. All teams have useless hacks in them. Just is seems that at the moment the Roosters has a plethora of them.

Mate I get to see the U20s occasionally when theyre on TV. Newtown even less. I dont comment on youngsters generally.

Going by what people say who do see the kids Id guess Symonds, Kennedy, Cordiner and Towers are the 4 most predict could make it, and Williamson of course. Thats just from reading peoples comments about the U20s of course.

Again I agree with your sentiment. I said a very similar thing reguarding Winterstein, I saw no-one whinge when we let him go, but many whinge when he tore us up earlier in the season. But I did see a few mention Tamou leaving and now hes going well for the Cows.

Id hope we only bring good kids to the club. Id hope the aim is to recruit as many kids as possible who could make it in 1st grade.

Our most successful period since the 70s we had a heap of kids come thru our system and go on to successful carrers. Ricko, Fletch, Minni, Crock, Flanners, Heggs, Cusack, Bonetti, Crossy and blokes like Ping, JC, Mozz, Hodgo and Fitzy who came as blokes with potential looking for opportunity. None were highly paid big names before they came to us or made grade.

I did a list of 35 players who have played at Easts still playing NRL footy now. Alot of those blokes were graded from our system. We had alot of success in the lower grades over the last 10yrs or so. That potential and talent in the lower grades IMO hasnt moved with any real success into 1st grade.

We do have a fascination at this club of developing talent but letting that talent move on and then replacing that talent with big names whove rarely aimed up for any sustained periods. Quite often the talent that leaves has success elsewhere. I think thats what annoys people.

It may be bad luck but I reckon its more like bad management. Big Artie bags us alot for this exact reason. Cant say I disagree with the great man either.

Look at Poocastle and Penwiff and the Faiders. Theyve suffered for a few seasons with youngsters coming into grade before their time and shedding older dead weight. But its paying off now for them. Im personally jealous of the way they do business and set up their structures. IMO we are way behind that sort of system.
