I had no expectations at all for this season. I could just feel it. We rode a wave of emotion to reach the grand final last year, only to be annihilated. I could feel the air go out of the club. Then Carney drank himself into a stupor all off season; you could tell he wasn't interested in 2011. Then the Anasta drama. Then Miles clearly wanting out. It was a recipe for disaster. And so it has proved.

Was Carney really partying that heavy in the off season?

I suppose the positive is that we have fallen apart early in the season, rather than late in the season when it's harder to put everything back together again.
