Police to appeal sentence handed to Sydney Roosters player Todd Carney for latest drink-driving offence

Police claim the magistrate who allowed Todd Carney to keep his drivers licence was too lenient on the Sydney Roosters five-eighth.

Carney was on Wednesday given a two-year good behaviour bond for a low-range drink-driving charge in February, but police believe the sentence isn’t harsh enough and will appeal.

"The NSW Police Force intends to refer the matter to the Director of Public Prosecutions for consideration for an appeal," a police spokeswoman told Fairfax Media.

Carney, 24, recorded a blood-alcohol level of 0.052 when he was pulled over in the Sydney suburb of Coogee. As a P-plater, he is not allowed to have any alcohol in his system.

It was Carney's third drink-driving offence.

Really wish they'd just piss off and let him get on with it. Dragging it out is only going to hurt him.

But, if that/this is what it takes to wake him up, so be it.

In the interest of the community Todd should lose his license for a period. Otherwise it may give P-platers the impression that they may not necessarily lose their license if they drive with low range drinking. Him being able to drive is not what I thought "zero tolerance" meant.

If this move by the police isn't incentive enough for TC to beat his demons then there is no hope for him.

He must have been a real prick back in Goulburn because the Sydney police have clearly got it in for him.

He was tailed when he was arrested. It was 7.00AM on a Saturday. It wasn't even a RBT unit or anything, just a patrol car pulling him over.

I reckon he would have been real bad news back in Goulburn and there's a vendetta. Those cops would have put a call in.

A big Dodge Nitro with tinted windows and a big tattoo shop sticker on the rear window driving on Saturday morning at 7am...what's the chance the driver might have had Friday night drinks ? Fair % chance I reckon !

                        Yeah exactly...
The last thing Carney needs is attention! Cops pick on big expensive cars (seriously who owns a Dodge in Australia?)

Smith should force Carney to drive a Corolla/Civic until he can learn not to stick out. I'm in my 30's and have seriously never been RBT'd. I drive a 5 year old Toyota Corolla sedan... before that I've driven a Mazda Metro and a 1998 Mini Cooper (old style body but with air bags + a more modern, reliable engine.) Connection or just luck that a guy whose coolest car was a mini hasn't been RBT'd?

That said, I've never been DUI and wear nerdy glasses when I drive.

It's quite obvious who is behind this decision to appeal the leniency

This smacks of Mike Gallacher wanting to appeal to the right wing psychopaths in the cops.

All that bullshit about bringing back the Bumper Farrell days.

That said, Carney is a dickhead for drinking and making himself a target.

I think we should ask Sean Garlick how his wife is going though, just to check if he's still angry with the Roosters.

Probably while a pack of Bra Boys were beating up a granny down the road.
